The Charging Infrastructure Design Lead will functionally report to HDR's EVSE Program Manager. This position will lead the delivery of charging infrastructure design projects, including the design of public charging infrastructure, fleet charging infrastructure, workplace charging, as well as the design of charging infrastructure that supports new fleet types and markets. In this role, you'll be responsible for understanding electric vehicle charging solutions to stay at the forefront of the industry as it continues to evolve and grow. This position will also be responsible for developing scope and fee proposals for new project pursuits.

In the role of Charging Infrastructure Design Lead, we'll count on you to:

  • Prepare scope and fee proposals, including estimating hours and fees, and coordinating with other discipline leads for inputs.
  • Manage projects and tasks of varying complexity including multi-disciplinary scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Engage with external clients and internal project managers, market sector leads, business group managers, and other throughout HDR for project delivery expertise.
  • Prepare detailed EVSE site designs and technical reports, including performing due diligence analysis and equipment siting.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines.
  • Willingness to travel intermittently, nationally, as necessary.

Technical Related Responsibilitie

  • Perform the following types of EV charging infrastructure design tasks: electrical supply equipment sizing, one-line diagram(s), equipment siting & protection design, conducting field visits, electrical calculations, ductbank trenching details, switchboard & panelboard schedules, conduit & feeder cable schedules, grounding design, creating final design plans, developing cost estimates, and creating specifications.
  • Apply client design standards to EV charging infrastructure design projects including design manuals and CAD/BIM standards.
  • Attend and lead client and project team meetings to provide project updates, resolve design issues, and coordinate design elements with other disciplines.
  • Build relationships with clients and team partners.
  • Mentoring junior staff in their professional growth and enhancing their skills.
  • Be aware of staff workload and facilitate work sharing within the business class and across other business groups and market sectors; promote effective use of company resources and assist in applying key staff/expertise to projects.
  • Supporting the pursuit of new projects in partnership with our leadership team.
  • Pursuing additional professional growth opportunities in project management, business development, technical expertise, etc.
  • Provide construction phase technical support including bid addenda, submittal reviews, Requests for Information (RFI), Construction Progress Reports (CPR) and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents, as needed

Preferred Qualification

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar field.
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
  • A/E Industry project management or task lead experience.
  • Working knowledge of industry practices and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong research and data analysis skills.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Curiosity and eagerness to be an industry thought leader.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 10 years related experience
  • A minimum 5 years project management experience
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
