Job Title: Senior Software Engineer (Mainframe) - Contingent Assignment

Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid - 3 days onsite at either 1525 W WT Harris Blvd or 300 S Brevard St)
About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer in this contingent role, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of mainframe-based systems that support critical business operations. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and secure software solutions, leveraging your expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and other mainframe technologies. This role involves working on moderately complex initiatives, analyzing technical challenges, and ensuring compliance with security and risk standards.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy mainframe software solutions using COBOL, JCL, DB2, and related technologies.
  • Participate in low to moderately complex projects, including system upgrades, deployments, and enhancements.
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and deliverables.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, escalating when necessary to meet service level agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of technical documentation and departmental procedures.
  • Ensure code quality, security, and compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support mainframe scheduling using CA7 and maintain RACF security standards.
  • Lead the migration of programs to production environments and oversee testing and debugging processes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent through a combination of work experience, training, military service, or education.
  • Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, IBM Utilities, and SPUFI.
  • Experience with mainframe scheduling tools (e.g., CA7) and security frameworks (e.g., RACF).
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and mainframe coding best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with enterprise-scale API and batch job processing.
  • Familiarity with change and incident management tools such as ServiceNow.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with onshore and offshore teams.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure, security, and compliance standards in a mainframe environment.
