Overview:

We are seeking a Customer Engineer (CE) with a strong background in data governance, cataloging, and compliance to help enterprise customers implement Microsoft Purview across complex data estates. This is a customer-facing, technically focused role where you'll help clients lead secure and intelligent data governance engagements across Azure and hybrid data environments.

You ll drive customer adoption of Purview s full suite from data mapping and cataloging to quality assessments, lineage tracking, and domain-based governance helping organizations gain visibility, control, and trust in their data.

Salary range is $95 - 110K based on experience.

Travel: CE s are home based and deliver services typically via Microsoft Teams.

What You ll Do:

  • Guide customers through the design and deployment of Microsoft Purview, helping them build a unified data catalog across structured and unstructured sources
  • Guide clients to implement robust data discovery, classification, and mapping to improve security posture and compliance readiness
  • Enable data stewards and security teams to assess and improve data quality through Purview insights and rules
  • Guide clients through configuration and organization of assets using domains, collections, and business glossary terms for simplified governance at scale
  • Help clients to establish data lineage visualization across Azure SQL, Synapse, Power BI, and hybrid sources to enhance traceability and auditing
  • Drive adoption and integration of Purview with broader Microsoft security and compliance tooling (Defender for Cloud, M365 Purview, etc.)
  • Lead workshops, demos, and planning sessions to help customers build long-term governance strategies tied to their Microsoft ecosystem
  • Capture customer feedback and best practices to help refine Microsoft s governance offerings and roadmap

Key Skills & Technologies:

  • Microsoft Purview: Unified data cataloging, sensitivity labels, data lineage, classifications, data domains & collections
  • Governance Architecture: Experience building and enforcing governance frameworks across data lakes, analytics platforms, and relational systems
  • Security & Compliance: Understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOX) and how data governance supports compliance
  • Azure Data Ecosystem: Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, SQL DB, and Power BI as they relate to data lineage and Purview scanning
  • Collaboration & Enablement: Ability to empower data owners, analysts, and security teams to operationalize governance at scale

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • 5+ years working in data governance, data architecture, or compliance-driven technical roles
  • Hands-on experience deploying Microsoft Purview or similar enterprise data governance platforms
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills to lead governance conversations across technical and business teams
  • Ability to translate data risk and quality issues into actionable architecture and policy changes
