Systems Administrator - Contract to Hire
Start Date: 06/09/2025
Duration: 3 Months
Location:Tampa, FL
Schedule: First month will be on-site 5 days per week. Months two and three have the ability for a hrybrid schedule (2 days remote).
Overview: This role will focus on ensuring the reliability, availability, and data integrity of Windows and Linux systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Active Directory (AD) administration.
- Oversee Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions.
- Support and maintain Microsoft 365 (M365).
- Provide technical support and administration for Microsoft Azure Cloud Services and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Configure and manage Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other cloud environments as determined by the law enforcement agency.
- Administer the Security, Information, and Event Management (SIEM) solution.
- Manage Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions.
- Administer the virtual environment.
- Handle enterprise email and email gateway solutions.
- Oversee anti-virus and anti-malware solutions.
- Conduct system installation, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, upgrading, patch maintenance, license management, system backup, user account administration, and maintain system security protocols.
- Maintain accurate hardware and software inventories for physical and virtual environments.
- Schedule and install critical system patches and updates.
- Proactively monitor systems using an enterprise monitoring solution.
- Conduct routine security audits and compliance/vulnerability scans as necessary.
- Collaborate on projects across ISD and adhere to deadlines.
- Provide root cause analysis for major incidents or issues.
- Write custom scripts and create Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
- Evaluate vendor products and services.
- Build and deploy software packages using a software distribution solution.
- Understand key performance aspects of the Systems Administrator: Infrastructure role to support the Senior Systems Administrator: Infrastructure.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of the law enforcement agency and external customers and vendors.
- Develop and document technical processes and procedures as needed.
- Maintain system configuration documentation and update it as systems are added or retired.
- Audit systems to ensure compliance with law enforcement agency/Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) standards.
- Manage a ticket queue to address reported issues and requests promptly.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies and hypervisors.
- Understanding of enterprise monitoring solutions for system uptime and resource utilization.
- Basic knowledge of network configuration and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Linux operating systems (especially Red Hat) and Windows Server 2019+.
- Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery technologies.
- Familiarity with Azure AD/Microsoft Entra ID.
- Understanding of Active Directory environments, including organization units (OUs), auditing, backup, recovery, and authority delegation.
- Knowledge of storage management technologies like Enterprise Storage Area Networks (SANs) and Network File System (NFS).
- Skills in systems integration, security compliance, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
- Ability to manage a Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS X) within a Windows environment.
- Quick learner of new technologies and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Capable of taking ownership of tasks and projects.
- Proficiency in writing custom scripts and collaborating effectively in a team.
- Creative and abstract thinking abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) certification.
- Ten years of systems administration experience in an enterprise environment.
- Advanced scripting skills.
- Experience in Cloud Platform administration.
- Experience with enterprise backup solutions and VMware vSphere ESXi and NSX administration.
- Proven skills in managing enterprise-level SANs, Linux systems, Microsoft Entra ID, and Exchange.
- Experience with server hardware and capacity planning in virtual environments.
- Experience in supporting enterprise server-based applications.
- Familiarity with administration of Windows Server 2019+ and knowledge of disaster recovery planning strategies.
Minimum Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Seven years of technical support and system implementation experience in an enterprise setting, covering virtualization, backup and disaster recovery, storage networks, messaging, cloud technologies, OS-agnostic systems, and basic networking skills.
