Network Engineer

Our client, a recognized leader in the construction and engineering design industry, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Network Engineer to join their team on a full-time basis. Ideal candidates will have experience (fill in the rest). This individual will oversee network and server administration, including firewalls, routers, switches, network protocols and server maintenance. Ideal candidate will have experience implementing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and developing security-focused procedures. The role also involves providing helpdesk support and mentoring helpdesk staff. This position reports to the Director of Corporate IT. The salary for this role is $125,000 annually plus benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Network & Systems Engineer:

• Install, configure, and support network equipment such as routers, core and access switches, servers, Active Directory (AD), DNS, and DHCP.
• Maintain and optimize firewalls, routing, and switching to ensure high levels of network efficiency and security.
• Monitor and maintain network performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
• Coordinate scheduled upgrades and maintain network servers, including file servers, VPN gateways, and intrusion detection systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot network faults, outages, and related issues.
• Ensure timely installation and maintenance of network security updates in line with industry best practices.
• Create and maintain detailed reports on network performance and update network configuration documentation regularly.

Systems Administration:

• Perform system administration for all Windows servers, including installation, patch management, and application support.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for managing Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), and virtual server infrastructure.
• Administer and support both on-premises and Azure Active Directory environments, along with Office 365 systems.
• Monitor system resources (CPU, disk usage, response time) to ensure optimal server and infrastructure performance.
• Install, configure, and maintain server-side security software, including antivirus and endpoint protection tools.

Security & Backup:

• Maintain a strong security posture by managing firewalls, applying patches, enforcing password policies, and overseeing other components of the security stack.
• Continuously monitor for network vulnerabilities through penetration testing and security analysis.
• Maintain accurate server and infrastructure documentation, including system logs and capacity tracking.
• Monitor resource usage and provide projections for consumables such as disk space and network bandwidth.
• Manage and verify corporate backup systems for all servers, ensuring regular testing and reliability of data recovery processes.
• Stay informed about evolving trends in information technology security to enhance infrastructure defenses.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven experience supporting and maintaining a Windows Server 2022 environment.
• Advanced knowledge of:
  • Computer systems architecture
  • Azure Active Directory and on-premises Active Directory
  • VMware ESX virtual environments
  • Fortinet firewall systems and SD-WAN solutions
  • TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, routing protocols, and LAN/WAN topologies
• Strong hands-on experience with Veeam backup software, including configuration, monitoring, and recovery procedures.
• Demonstrated expertise in computer security, including threat detection, prevention, and incident response.
• Familiarity with industry-standard security frameworks and risk management methodologies, such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
• Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
• Cisco CCIE certification is a plus, but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.
• Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
• Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
• Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
