Job Description:
- The Resource Manager for the ERP Transformation Project Management Office (PMO) Group specializing in SAP deployments is a crucial leadership role responsible for overseeing the effective allocation, utilization, and development of project resources within large-scale SAP implementation and transformation programs. This individual will partner closely with PMO leadership, program/project managers, technical leads, and business stakeholders to ensure that the right people with the right skills are assigned to the right projects at the right time, optimizing both project delivery and organizational performance.
- The Resource Manager will be at the heart of demand and capacity planning, supporting the successful execution of SAP deployments while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional growth among team members. The role requires a blend of strategic foresight, operational discipline, and a robust understanding of SAP technologies and project delivery methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
Resource Planning & Allocation:
- Collaborate with project managers, program leads, and senior management to understand resource requirements for SAP projects, including functional, technical, and support roles.
- Maintain a holistic view of current and upcoming project resource needs to anticipate gaps and potential bottlenecks.
- Assign resources to SAP deployment projects based on skill set, availability, project priority, and business needs.
- Balance workload across the project portfolio to maximize team productivity and minimize resource conflicts.
Demand and Capacity Management:
- Track and forecast demand for specialized SAP roles (e.g., SAP Functional, ABAP Developers, SAP Basis, SAP Security, Data Migration) across multiple deployments.
- Conduct regular capacity reviews to assess resource utilization, identify under- or over-allocation, and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Work proactively with PMO leadership to develop mitigation strategies for potential resource shortages or surpluses.
Talent Development & Performance Management:
- Support managers and team leads in tracking skills, certifications, and performance of SAP project team members.
Stakeholder Communication & Relationship Management:
- Serve as primary point of contact for resource-related discussions with business leaders, PMO, SAP solution architects, and third-party vendors.
- Negotiate priorities, resolve resource conflicts, and manage escalations in a diplomatic and solutions-oriented manner.
- Provide regular resource utilization and availability reports to executive leadership and program governance bodies.
Process Improvement & Governance:
- Develop, document, and refine resource management processes, tools, and templates for SAP deployments within the PMO.
- Champion the adoption of resource management best practices and align with organizational policies and compliance requirements.
- Support audit and compliance activities related to resource deployment in SAP projects.
Tool & Data Management:
- Leverage resource management and project portfolio management (PPM) tools (e.g., Planview Enterprise, MS Project, MS-Office 365, PBI) to track assignments, utilization, and forecast trends.
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity in resource planning systems, enabling informed decision making and reporting.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field (minimum required). A Master s degree or equivalent experience is an asset.
- 3-5+ years of experience in resource management, workforce planning, or project management within an IT organization, preferably supporting SAP deployments or large-scale enterprise applications.
- Advanced knowledge of SAP modules (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC) and related project lifecycles.
- Expertise with resource management or PPM tools and reporting platforms.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis, forecasting, and scenario planning.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to influence at all organizational levels.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated experience with process improvement, change management, and stakeholder engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in SAP, PMP, PMI-RMP, or similar project/resource management certifications.
- Experience working in a PMO or Center of Excellence supporting global SAP rollouts.
- Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery frameworks in SAP environments.
- Understanding of change management and training best practices in technology projects.
