Overview

The Crane Engineering Program at Quonset Point is a comprehensive program covering specification criteria, maintenance, trouble shooting, testing, commissioning, and procurement of Lifting & Handling equipment. This program includes overhead cranes, mobile cranes, and various other lifting equipment for both Electric Boat owned/operated and Vendor owned/operated equipment. This position requires a highly motivated, well organized self-starter, ready to work in a fast paced area. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide oral and written technical direction for the repair/replacement and load test certifications of Lifting & Handling equipment such as overhead cranes, mobile cranes, hoists, and jibs. Technical direction to include detailed instructions to crane repair mechanics and electricians, document and certify equipment in accordance with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), OSHA, ASME, ANSI, AISC, ASTM, AWS, CMAA, NEC, and NEMA standards.
  • Execute company policy and procedures as they relate to the Weight Handling Equipment Program.
  • Develop/review specifications of new crane procurement for existing and future facilities.
  • Coordinate with customers/management to reduce negative impacts to core business needs and schedules.
  • Execute basic planning skills.
  • Develop critical path scheduling and plan for execution of work assignments.
  • Apply lessons learned for program improvement.
  • Scheduling work with vendors.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering
  • 2-5 years of Engineering experience
  • Must be comfortable working at heights
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred:
  • Advanced Engineering degree
  • Experience with cranes or other heavy equipment
  • Experience with a CMMS system in relation to maintenance operations
