Job Description
As Sr Metallurgist - Smelting and Refining, you will provide technical expertise in support of the centralized, global support function in copper smelting, electrorefining, and sulfuric acid production. You'll drive technical excellence and operational efficiency across global operations with expertise in chemistry, metallurgy, and process engineering.
Your role involves supporting the development of technical expertise at operational sites through application of first principles and in-depth analysis of complex metallurgical problems. You'll gather information to provide recommendations on technical guidelines supporting operational sites' metallurgical processes while evaluating production processes to identify opportunities for improved cost, efficiency, capacity, and quality.
This position requires extensive travel (up to 75% international and domestic) to support global operations and offers bonus potential of 12-15%. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of metallurgy experience with demonstrated ability to manage projects and complex technical initiatives while working effectively in multi-disciplinary groups.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise in support of centralized, global support function in copper smelting, electrorefining, and sulfuric acid production.
- Drive technical excellence and operational efficiency across global operations with expertise in chemistry, metallurgy, and process engineering.
- Support development of technical expertise at operational sites through application of first principles and in-depth analysis of problems.
- Gather information to provide recommendations on technical guidelines in support of operational sites' metallurgical processes and practices.
- Maintain technical literature database relevant to site operations.
- Evaluate production processes to identify opportunities for improved cost, efficiency, capacity, or quality.
- Review sites' key process indicators to track performance and propose actions on a continual improvement basis.
- Evaluate and/or administer contracts with vendors for provision of services and equipment in support of site metallurgical studies or testing.
- Engage with key vendors and technology providers to stay abreast of competition and industry advancements and innovations.
- Participate in risk assessments (HAZOP, Management of Change, etc.) in support of site projects.
- Enhance sites' understanding of Process Safety/PSM and support process safety improvements and implementation.
- Contribute to educational seminars, conferences, and training sessions to disseminate knowledge and promote best practices.
- Conduct routine surveillance to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Make recommendations regarding current or upcoming regulatory threats or changes.
Required Experience/Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related engineering discipline and five (5) years' experience in metallurgy or closely related scientific field; OR Master's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related engineering discipline and three (3) years' experience in metallurgy or closely related scientific field.
- Ability to mentor, lead, and influence others in company safety and environmental initiatives, culture, and values.
- Understanding of technical and operational aspects of assigned unit operations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information in clear and concise form.
- Demonstrated ability to research, recognize, and identify interdependence of complex process variables to anticipate issues, draw valid conclusions, and make recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large projects and provide timely and quality results.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate technical needs, drive and optimize complex metallurgical test work based on complex data analysis.
- Experience effectively leading or being involved in multi-disciplinary groups and demonstrate accountability.
- Skill in supervising, evaluating, training, and motivating employees.
- Skill in preparing, defending, and monitoring budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, engage, lead, and empower internal or external resources to solve problems.
- Ability to adapt influencing and/or management style to different situations.

- Salary range: $101,000 - $131,000
