Job Details

Job Title: Hardware Automation Engineer

Location: LA, CA

Long Term Contract

Software & Scripting:

Develop software test procedures, automation scripts, and software to control test hardware like oscilloscopes, power

supplies, and data acquisition (DAQ) systems.

Hardware Integration:

Integrate various standard lab equipment and NI hardware, such as PXI, cDAQ, and RIO, into automated test systems.

Test Execution & Data Analysis:

Run functional, performance, and durability tests, collect data, analyze results, and provide feedback to design teams.

Documentation & Maintenance:

Maintain and document software designs, hardware interfaces, and test results, ensuring version control and overall system

reliability.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

Work with hardware engineers, validation teams, and other cross-functional groups to define requirements, drive the

development of automation infrastructure, and troubleshoot issues.

Continuous Improvement:

Optimize and improve the test automation framework to increase efficiency, improve test coverage, and reduce test times.

Required Skills & Experience

Programming Skills:

Familiarity with other programming languages like Python for scripting and tooling.

Hardware Knowledge:

Experience with standard test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators) and NI hardware platforms (PXI, cDAQ).

Technical Understanding:

Knowledge of computer hardware, communication protocols (e.g., USB, Ethernet, RS-232), and electrical schematics.

Problem-Solving:

Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills for both software and hardware issues.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

LabVIEW Expertise:

Proficiency in LabVIEW programming, including creating modular, reusable code and frameworks.

EXPORT CONTROL REQUIREMENT:

(i.e., current ), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years experience as a Hardware Automation Engineer

Degree in one of the following areas OR related field OR equivalent work experience:

Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering

Other STEM

Demonstrated experience in one of the following areas:

NI Test Stand

Precision mechanisms

Demonstrated experience in all the following areas:

Hardware Interface and driver development for experimental hardware

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years experience as a hardware automation engineer (or equivalent)

Experience designing:

LASER optical communication systems for space applications

Precision mechanisms

Experience buildingcomplex systems in lab / 100k clean room environment
