Job Title: Health IT Architect – NextGen EHR Systems
Location: 100% Remote
Duration: 12+ Months Contract

General Nature of Work:

We are seeking an expert-level Health IT Architect to lead the planning, design, development, and implementation of systems architecture in support of the agency’s strategic Health-IT objectives. This role requires deep experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, specifically with NextGen Healthcare products and associated technologies.

You will provide strategic guidance and technical leadership for systems including NextGen EHR, PM, EDR, NGShare, NG Mobile, Mirth, eZmar, and Symmetry. This position plays a key role in aligning technology initiatives with both agency and state-level standards and strategies.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead the architecture design and evolution of the agency’s Health IT systems.

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define long-term technology strategies.

  • Develop and maintain strategic roadmaps and security architecture documentation.

  • Ensure alignment of agency IT initiatives with statewide standards and security compliance.

  • Lead technology evaluations and product/vendor selection processes.

  • Define and enforce technology policies, processes, and controls.

  • Actively monitor market trends and emerging technologies to advise on strategic adoption.

  • Support the implementation and operation of the agency's EHR and related systems.

  • Assist with build, testing, training, and go-live of NextGen EHR in coordination with vendors.

  • Oversee integration with external systems (e.g., offender management, LIS, PACS, pharmacy).

  • Define and develop custom reports from the NextGen database based on agency needs.

  • Facilitate the agency’s participation in health information exchanges (HIEs).

  • Work with clinical teams to identify and implement technology-driven efficiency solutions.

  • Evaluate and recommend IT equipment purchases or leases.

  • Provide detailed status updates to management.

Required Skills (Ranked in Order of Importance):

  • 10+ years of experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR)

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with NextGen EHR, PM, and EDR

  • NextGen Certification

  • Advanced proficiency with NextGen Template Editor and template customization

  • In-depth knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance

  • Experience with ICD-9 / ICD-10 coding standards

  • Familiarity with healthcare data interface standards and health information exchange (HIE) technologies

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to plan and prioritize in complex environments

Preferred Skills (Ranked in Order of Importance):

  • Experience with HL7 integration and SQL

  • Knowledge of Crystal Reports

  • Familiarity with eMAR, Mirth Connect

  • Experience with imaging and integration systems such as PACS, CIPS/Fusion, Merge

  • Understanding of project management methodologies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of Health-IT architecture, multi-tiered systems, security, and enterprise data.

  • Proven leadership in strategic planning, architecture development, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Ability to communicate technical and security concepts clearly to executive and non-technical audiences.

  • Skilled at building relationships with stakeholders, vendors, and internal teams.

  • Knowledge of IT governance, compliance, and state-level IT initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field
    (Relevant experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis)

  • Extensive experience designing and implementing enterprise-level system architectures in on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments.
