Neighborhood Scale Transformation - Clean Heat for All 2.0
The Market Scaling team s purpose is to identify, vet, and scale technical and non-technical solutions that reduce complexity, implementation costs, and operating costs for building decarbonization, making these solutions competitive with their fossil fuel equivalent, including by supporting the development and advancement of solutions and services that meet stakeholders needs and requirements, in collaboration with supply chain actors, and by developing interventions to catalyze the connection between a clear market demand and supply. To fulfil this role, the team needs a deep understanding of how key actors in the supply chain (investors, manufacturers, distributors, etc.) make investment decisions, and how to influence these decisions.

Market Engagement (Market gather intelligence/ company make invest identify risk, priorities, challenges they face, Interview and Manufacturing. Get feedback and create market competition. Make Manufacture understand the market. The competition and cost effective solutions and motivate/ help them and if required provide investors.
Think of it as a bridge role: connecting NYSERDA s clean energy goals with the real-world business priorities of manufacturers and investors.
This person will work closely with manufacturers, investors, and supply chain leaders to understand how they make decisions, then design smart business cases and strategies that encourage companies to invest in and adopt clean energy solutions.
Talk with manufacturers and investors to learn what drives their decisions.
Translate NYSERDA s clean energy goals into business cases that make sense for the private sector.
Shape programs that reduce costs, risks, and barriers to adopting clean technologies.
Advise internally at NYSERDA on how to structure deals, incentives, and strategies.
Build trust with executives and convince them to invest in new clean energy products and solutions.
Represent NYSERDA in high-level discussions, negotiations, and events.
Corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, venture capital, or private equity.
Working with manufacturers on market entry or capital investment decisions.
Industrial supply chain strategy or manufacturing scale-up.
Core Responsibilities
Market Engagement
Directly engage with manufacturers/tech firms (especially in building decarbonization heat pumps, ventilation, envelope solutions).
Conduct C-suite level discussions to understand investment logic, decision criteria, risk appetite, and opportunities.
Gather actionable intelligence and feedback for NYSERDA.
Internal Advisory
Translate NYSERDA s goals into business cases appealing to private sector executives.
Advise on program design (e.g., contracts, investment incentives, guarantees).
Identify gaps, structure deals, and shape offers that manufacturers find credible.
Challenge old assumptions and promote outcome-driven, business-savvy approaches.
Strategic Influence & Communication
Build compelling narratives to convince firms to invest, scale, or innovate in building decarbonization.
Tailor messaging to executives real concerns.
Represent NYSERDA in negotiations and industry forums.
Skills & Competencies Sought
Corporate decision-making fluency (CFO/CEO-level thinking about capital allocation, risk, and scaling).
Competitive strategy & business case design.
Financial literacy (deal structuring, investment logic; financial modeling a plus).
Capital allocation & risk evaluation.
Cross-functional industry fluency (supply chain, materials, design, delivery).
Strong interpersonal & communication skills (trusted advisor to executives, cross-functional collaboration).
Strategic storytelling & narrative framing.
Behavioral insight (knowing what truly motivates decisions beyond numbers).
Preferred Background
Former corporate strategy executive/analyst or someone with experience in:
Corporate finance, M&A, private equity, venture capital.
Go-to-market strategies, manufacturing scale-up, early-stage commercialization.
Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering (Bachelor s required; Master s preferred in Strategy, Finance, Industrial Policy, etc.).
