Apex Systems is seeking an experienced Database Engineer with strong experience supporting SQL Server databases. The Database Engineer will oversee the performance, integrity, and security of our firm's databases. This individual will play a crucial role in the management and maintenance of both on-premises and cloud-based database systems. The Database Engineer will be instrumental in building our enterprise data lake house and warehouse, establishing robust data connections, and creating data gateways across multiple sources to support the firm's data-driven initiatives. As a key player in our IT department, you will collaborate closely with system engineers, data analysts, and project managers to ensure seamless data integration and sustained data accessibility across the firm.

Essential Job Duties
  • Database Maintenance and Operations: Ensure all database servers are up and running smoothly, providing a seamless flow of information throughout the company, minimizing downtime, and managing parameters to provide fast query responses.
  • Data Security and Backup: Implement and oversee robust security measures, data integrity, backup, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot Database Issues: Rapidly troubleshoot any database issues that arise as part of the day-to-day operations of the firm, ensuring data accuracy and availability.
  • Data Warehouse Development and Maintenance: Design, develop and maintain ETL processes related to importing and exporting data from source systems, transforming and cleansing data, and providing data to the data lake and warehouse.
  • Business Intelligence Support: Develop and maintain Power BI datasets, dashboards, and reports, assisting in the creation of visualizations that help translate complex datasets into actionable insights.
  • Documentation and Data Literacy: Assist in developing comprehensive documentation for data management practices and BI tools and contribute to enhancing data literacy across the firm.
  • Communication: Regularly communicate business and technical problems and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences (including at times, senior management).

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, and at least 7-10 years of related work experience.
  • Proven experience in database administration, with a strong background in data warehouse management and data integration.
  • Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server including Integration Services (SSIS), Reporting Services (SSRS), and Analysis Services (SSAS).
  • Proficiency in Power BI and other business intelligence tools, with experience in data visualization and dashboard creation.
  • Strong understanding of ETL processes, performance tuning, and SQL query optimization.
  • Experience with cloud technologies and managing hybrid database environments.
  • Prior law firm experience and/or familiarity with legal-specific technologies are a plus.

  • Knowledgeable in web-related technologies such as HTML, XML and web services.

  • Outstanding work ethic with the ability to see an issue through to the end and recommend future improvements.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Able to strategically manage several concurrent projects, and able to quickly respond to shifting priorities.
  • An eagerness to delve into new technologies and products.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels, including executives.
  • Has enthusiasm for continuous learning and development.
