Our Challenge:
We are seeking multiple a highly skilled Mainframe COBOL Developer's to join our dynamic team. The individual will be responsible for a balanced mix of development, testing, and production support activities within our banking or enterprise environment. This role involves working on new functionality, supporting testing environments, and providing ongoing production support for critical jobs across various environments.
Additional Information*:
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Minneapolis, MN/ Dallas, TX/ Hackensack, NJ/ Charlotte, NC /Chicago, IL is $110K-$120K/year & benefits (see below).
The Role
Responsibilities:
- Development & Enhancement: Design, develop, and implement new business applications and functionality using COBOL. Modify and enhance existing applications to meet evolving business needs.
- Testing Support: Support ICS testing environments by preparing and testing new developments, ensuring smooth integration and functionality.
- Production Support: Provide tier-2 support for batch and online jobs running in various environments such as IT, UAT, and AAE. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Lifecycle Management: Participate in the complete software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Batch & Online Processing: Handle high-volume, large-scale batch jobs and online transaction processing, ensuring performance, accuracy, and reliability.
- Cross-Platform Expertise: Work with applications and tools across multiple platforms and languages, including RPG400, RPG III, COBOL, SYNON, and possibly C on mid-range systems like DEC VAX or HP3000.
- Support & Documentation: Maintain technical documentation for applications and support processes, ensuring clear records for future reference and audits.
- Collaboration: Work closely with business analysts, system analysts, and QA teams to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with business goals.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Proven experience with 10+ years as a COBOL Developer with strong knowledge of mainframe or mid-range environments.
- Experience with RPG400, RPG III, COBOL, SYNON, or similar languages in AS/400 environments.
- Knowledge of other platforms such as DEC VAX or HP3000 with proficiency in C or COBOL is a plus.
- Strong understanding of batch and online processing in high-volume environments.
- Demonstrated ability to support both development activities and production support.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
Preferred, but not required:
- Familiarity with automation or scheduling tools used in batch processing.
- Experience supporting banking or financial services applications.
- Knowledge of testing tools and environments.
