Description:

  • Research, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency, or costs. May be responsible for the transfer from R&D to manufacturing.

  • The Mechanical Engineering Group provides innovative design solutions for advanced technology prototypes. Example projects include laser communication, high energy lasers, optical sensors, biological agent detectors, and large radar antennas, for systems deployed on ground, maritime, air and spaceborne platforms. The group has expertise in precision engineering, optomechanics, mechanisms, electronics packaging, large structures, highly efficient lightweight structures, composite materials and additive manufacturing. The group is the Engineering Division s center for 3D CAD design and data management, and is involved in every step of program execution from conceptual design to system integration and test.

  • The selected candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, under the direction of a group Technical Project Manager, to provide support for the mechanical design and testing of complex mechanical, opto-mechanical and electro- mechanical systems. Responsibilities will include design, integration, and testing of complex hardware from conceptual design through fabrication and field performance evaluation. The candidate must be knowledgeable in a broad range of challenging problems involving structures, mechanisms, thermal systems, optics and electronics. This position involves working in close-knit teams with design, analyses and test personnel. Candidates must be enthusiastic, innovative and motivated self starters able to work independently, or as part of a group. They must possess strong oral and written communication skills and must be able to present statresults to internal and external audiences. The position may require travel to meetings and field sites.
    Education and Experience Requirement: Bachelor s degree is mandatory.
    Candidates should have a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering OR Aerospace. A master s degree is a plus (there is some flexibility on the years of experience if the candidate has a Masters).

Required Skills:

  • Looking for someone with minimum of 5+ years of experience. The team will look at candidates with more experience if available to the market.
  • Experience in mechanical design, assembly and environmental testing of high reliability electronic, electro-optic, mechanisms, or opto-mechanical systems for DoD or aerospace applications.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with the development of electro-mechanical systems utilized on spacecraft and/or aircraft
  • Experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD software.

Preferred Skills:

-Opto-Mechanical design/development experience would be HIGHLY preferred

Clearance: A secret clearance is required from the first day due to the nature of the project work. The prospective worker would need to clear up to a Top Secret (TS) level clearance once their assignment started. A currently active TS clearance is preferred.

Onsite requirement: There will be opportunity for partial remote work for this position (possible 80% onsite/20% virtual depending on program work) after an initial training period. The initial training period would be 100% onsite (at least the first few months). The candidate must be local to Lexington to be able to come into the office as needed on the programs that they are supporting.
