Position Title: NoSQL Database Developer - Senior

Location: Northern Virginia (Quantico-Stafford); Remote possible

Role:

We are seeking three (3) dynamic and experienced Senior level Database Developers skilled with NoSQL platforms. The work supports a multi-year project to sustain and develop a cloud-based information management system for a Department of Defense customer.

Duties:

  • Design, develop, and maintain NoSQL database solutions (MarkLogic NoSQL platform) to support Marine Corps Technical Data Management systems.
  • Implement and optimize data models to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Integrate structured and unstructured data sources to enable enterprise-wide access and analytics.
  • Develop APIs and services to connect internal and external databases with Appian-based BPM solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity and data governance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, and tune database performance across multiple environments.
  • Support modernization and migration efforts from legacy databases to NoSQL solutions.
  • Perform related database functions including designing, implementing and maintaining new databases, backup/recovery and configuration management at the ADT level.
  • Maintain databases by capacity planning, conducting database backups, monitoring logs for potential problems, monitoring software database license process, managing technical action reports to resolve software issues, and performing software upgrades and patches.
  • Provide outage resolution support and perform analysis to resolve recurring database issues.
  • Provide input for modification of procedures and documentation used for problem resolution and day-to-day maintenance.
  • Develop/maintain/participate in disaster recovery plans; install, configure, and maintain DBMS.
  • Coordinate with the MCBOSS team for issue escalation and provide in-depth problem diagnosis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related technical discipline (master s preferred).

Certifications:

  • MarkLogic Certified Developer or Administrator.
  • Cloud certification (AWS and/or Azure) is strongly preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • 8+ years of database development and administration experience, with at least 5 years working on NoSQL platforms (MarkLogic strongly preferred; MongoDB, Couchbase, or Cassandra acceptable).
  • Experience supporting DoD or federal programs with enterprise-level data integration.
  • Proven ability to design and implement schema-less data models for high-volume, mission-critical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with data ingestion, transformation, and retrieval processes in distributed database environments.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Expert-level proficiency with NoSQL development tools.
  • Strong knowledge of APIs, RESTful services, and integration with BPM platforms (especially Appian).
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD, and automated testing for database deployments.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Agile teams and communicate complex data concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Understanding of DoD cybersecurity standards and secure data handling practices.
