Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior EMC Engineering Technician (2nd Shift) in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating an integrated avionics system to simulate aircraft installation to perform EMC testing and monitor and document system performance.

Essential Functions
  • Work under minimal supervision of an Engineer or more experienced technician
  • Create new test plans and procedures for complex systems
  • Mentor Engineering Technicians with less experience
  • Make progress with tasks under general supervision of an Engineer or more experienced technician
  • Follow established test plans or procedures
  • Educate other less experienced people on a typical test procedure
  • Diagnose and explain complex system level problems regarding software configuration issues
  • Independently set up, run, and complete detailed qualification plans and reports for a product or small system with little direction and produces error-free test reports
  • Understand how systems need to be wired and create wiring diagrams (WD) for harness fabrication including a brand-new harness
  • Work with installation manuals, OEM WD, Garmin OEM WD to create the necessary harness for test
  • Understand HW/SW system interactions and can differentiate between hardware and software problems for complex systems
  • Use internally developed software tools to create new GST/GBench files to support testing and to make edits to HIVE or GAME files with guidance from an engineer

Basic Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering, or another substantially similar field OR electronics related Military training OR completion of a minimum of 80 hours towards a BS degree in Electronics Technology or substantially related field OR current ISCET certification or related certification AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in addition to any one of the above education options OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Expert on the knowledge of test process and the test outputs expected for system test
  • Show a deeper understanding of Garmin Integrated Flight Deck (GIFD) regarding how the data flows within the GIFD, to allow for better troubleshooting and some understanding of system documents like TRD, to recognize how functions are implemented
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion
  • Ability to create system test set ups, with minimal supervision and have good knowledge of integration
  • Able to perform troubleshooting with minimal input
  • Expert on EMC lab test systems with the ability to execute tests and troubleshoot test related problems
  • Advanced knowledge of product/system test plans and procedures for efficient execution and report creation
  • Collaborates efficiently with HW or SW teams to accomplish goals for the test
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel to allow complex reports to be written and complex data analysis
  • Able to use more complex internally developed tools (such as HIVE and GAME) with assistance
  • Efficient with debugging new or more complex problems
  • Ability to design new and complex test setups to support product and system test plans
  • Ability to: bend, twist and lift up to 50 lbs. and team lift up to 100 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques; push/pull test equipment on wheeled, moveable racks of up to 400 lbs.; stand for extended periods of time, climb and utilize ladders to connect cables; and walk long distances throughout the facility
