Job Description: Data Modeler (MISMO Standards)

Position Overview
We are seeking a results-driven Data Modeler with specialized expertise in MISMO standards for the mortgage finance industry. This key role will design, develop, and maintain data models that ensure efficient, standardized data exchange aligned with industry best practices. You will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to modernize, integrate, and support data management processes across the entire mortgage lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Logical and Physical Data Models
- Develop and manage models using MISMO Logical Data Model (LDM) and XML schema standards for mortgage data exchange]
- Model and document data entities, relationships, and flows throughout the loan lifecycle.
- MISMO Standards Implementation
- Map legacy and source system data to MISMO schemas; ensure compliance and version control with up-to-date releases (e.g., MISMO v3.6)
- Apply MISMO Enhanced Logical Data Dictionary (ELDD) and other official resources when defining and managing data requirements.
- Business and Data Analysis
- Analyze business processes and requirements to identify and define EBM-aligned entities and attributes.
- Engage stakeholders to gather needs and ensure that data model design meets operational, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
- Data Transformation and Integration
- Lead or support efforts to migrate, transform, and integrate data to MISMO-compliant structures using best practices in ETL.
- Develop data mapping, conversion, and validation strategies to support seamless data interchange with internal and external systems.
- Documentation and Governance
- Maintain thorough documentation of all data models, mappings, and transformation rules.
- Enforce data governance, versioning, and change control policies in alignment with MISMO Engineering Guidelines (MEGs).
- Testing and Validation
- Develop and execute test plans to ensure data quality and schema conformance, leveraging automated validation tools.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Provide technical support and MISMO thought leadership to IT, business units, and third-party partners.
- Assist in adoption and training efforts for both internal users and external business partners.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in data modeling within the mortgage or financial services sector.
- Hands-on expertise with MISMO LDM, XML/XSD schema design, and mortgage industry datasets (e.g., ULDD, UCD, UAD.
- Strong knowledge of ETL tools and data transformation methodologies.
- Familiarity with Unified Modeling Language (UML) for documentation and visualization.
- Solid grounding in relational databases, NoSQL, and modern integration patterns for mortgage data exchange.
- Previous experience translating business rules and regulatory requirements into technical architecture and data models.
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and technical documentation.

- Experience with GSE data sets ( ULAD, ULDD, UCD).
- Familiarity with mortgage compliance datasets and evolving regulatory standards
- Knowledge of business rules engine standards (e.g., DMN) as recommended by MISMO for rules documentation and exchange.
