Job Title: Banking Application Support Specialist
Location: New York City (Onsite/Hybrid as required)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced IBM i (AS400/iSeries) Application Support Specialist to support and maintain the Bank's IBM i systems and mission-critical applications, including the Equation (Finastra/Misys) core banking system and GIFTSoft (eGift, witsweb) interface platform.
This role requires strong AS400 and RPG programming expertise, combined with SQL/database skills and application troubleshooting experience, to ensure the stability, performance, and availability of the Bank s core operations. The specialist will also monitor and support data flows from Equation through eGift into external systems (SWIFT, Treasury, Compliance, Fed) and design effective reports across key applications.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, proactive, and able to contribute across IT functions beyond core responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, monitor, and maintain IBM i (AS400/iSeries) environments supporting core banking applications.
Provide operational support and troubleshooting for the Equation (Finastra/Misys) core banking platform.
Manage the GIFTSoft data interface layer monitor and troubleshoot batch jobs, data feeds, and message flows to SWIFT and downstream systems.
Support DB2 on IBM i execute SQL queries, troubleshoot performance issues, and ensure database health.
Provide basic Oracle database support for reporting and GIFTSoft application integrations.
Perform system backups, restores, upgrades, and disaster recovery activities.
Implement security patches, upgrades, and performance tuning for IBM i systems.
Manage user profiles, job scheduling, spool files, and system messages.
Investigate and resolve application integration issues with external systems (SWIFT, Fed, Treasury, Compliance).
Collaborate with business and operations teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.
Coordinate with vendors for escalations and issue resolution.
Document system procedures, runbooks, and operational standards.
Qualifications & Skills
10+ years of hands-on experience as an IBM i (AS400/iSeries) professional, preferably in banking/financial services.
Strong expertise in AS400 administration, RPG programming, CL programming, job scheduling, and performance tuning.
Experience supporting Equation (Finastra/Misys) or other AS400-based core banking systems.
Knowledge of GIFTSoft or similar payment/compliance platforms integrated with core banking applications.
Experience managing data/message flows between core banking systems and SWIFT.
Proficiency in DB2 querying, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
Exposure to Oracle databases (reporting and integration troubleshooting).
Experience with backup/recovery tools and disaster recovery processes.
Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident management, change management).
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across application, database, and integration layers.
Excellent communication skills for interacting with end-users, business teams, and vendors.
