The successful Release Train Engineer will act as a coach, mentor, and servant leader, partnering with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and delivery teams to transition them into high-performing Agile teams. This position focuses heavily on Agile transformation activities, not release coordination, and requires a hands-on leader who can inspire change while providing structured guidance.
Key Responsibilities

* Oversee large or multiple product verticals with complex scope and interdependencies
* Facilitate Agile transformation activities, including transitioning teams to Scrum and Kanban
* Coach Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and delivery teams on Agile practices and mindsets
* Act as the first point of contact for Agile-related questions and coaching needs
* Work closely with teams until they are fully transitioned and self-sustaining
* Support change management initiatives, encouraging and educating teams throughout the transformation journey
* Leverage Agile metrics and ceremonies to identify areas for continuous improvement and maximize organizational performance
* Resolve and escalate impediments, manage risks, and assure delivery of value in alignment with company strategy
* Coordinate and facilitate large planning and solutioning sessions across multiple teams
* Collaborate with stakeholders, including Product Management, PMO, and other ARTs, to ensure alignment of strategy and execution
* Track features and capabilities through development while ensuring transparency and effective communication
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
* 5+ years of experience as a Release Train Engineer, Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Agile Project/Program Manager
* Strong Agile team leadership experience with proven ability to coach and mentor teams
* Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies, large-scale planning, and cross-team collaboration
* Deep understanding of Agile at Scale philosophies and methodologies (SAFe, LeSS, or similar)
* Exceptional interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills-able to connect with technical and non-technical audiences
* Proven ability to manage change, encourage adoption, and foster an Agile mindset across diverse teams
Preferred
* Scaled Agile certifications (SAFe Release Train Engineer, SAFe Agilist, Agile Practitioner, etc.)
* Experience leveraging and interpreting Agile delivery metrics
* Familiarity with transformation programs involving multiple teams and platforms
Additional Role Insights
* The company is mid-transformation-currently 68 teams, with at least one-third not yet trained in Scrum/Kanban
* This role will focus on coaching, transformation, and process adoption, not direct release coordination
* Strong emphasis on servant leadership, change management, and hands-on guidance
