Job Description
Summary
We are seeking an experienced Oracle Senior Database Engineer to join our dynamic team at NextEra Energy. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and monitoring enterprise database environments, with a primary focus on Oracle and PostgreSQL. You will play a key role in improving operational processes, driving efficiencies, and providing technical leadership. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, a solutions-oriented mindset, and the ability to mentor team members and collaborate with internal customers.
Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and maintain enterprise database environments (Oracle and PostgreSQL).
- Design, implement, and monitor database systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Develop and enforce database standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Perform database upgrades, installations, and disaster recovery planning.
- Utilize Oracle Enterprise Manager for monitoring and management.
- Conduct SQL tuning and database performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with application vendors for issue resolution and system integration.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members and internal stakeholders.
- Support systems engineering tasks including AIX/Linux performance tuning, memory management, I/O optimization, security, and clustering.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum development processes and contribute to DevOps initiatives (CI/CD).
- Deliver on-site support five days a week and participate in rotational support schedules.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering, administering, and managing relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Expertise in Oracle SYS views, tables, and database internals (locking, consistency, serialization).
- Strong knowledge of disaster recovery strategies and Oracle upgrades.
- Proficiency in SQL tuning and performance optimization.
- Systems engineering experience with AIX/Linux environments.
- Coding skills in at least one scripting language (TCL, Perl, Python, PowerShell).
