UNIVERSAL Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer in a part-time, remote role with up to 20 hours per week – candidates with an active LinkedIn profile preferred. The consultant will provide specialized expertise in the maintenance and upgrade of core mainframe components. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring system reliability, availability, and serviceability of enterprise applications, with a strong emphasis on DB2 and CICS. This role requires deep technical expertise in IBM systems and program products, along with proven experience leading upgrades, performance tuning, and lifecycle management. The consultant will also provide advisory-level guidance, documentation, and knowledge transfer to strengthen organizational capabilities.

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Note: Candidates who do not meet these requirements will not be considered.
- Bachelors degree or 10+ years of experience in a relevant technical field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience with z/OS, JES2, SMP/E, TSO, IOCP/HCD, basic IBM utilities (IDCAMS, IEFBR14, etc.), program product installations, IBM virtual tape systems, and Unix System Services.
- Hands-on experience with DB2, CICS, and IMS.
- Experience using monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON.
- Proven background with enterprise-wide, large-scale mainframe implementations.
- Strong experience with mainframe CPU installs as a Systems Programmer.
- Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
SCOPE OF SERVICES The consultant will provide part-time, high-level mainframe systems programming expertise, including but not limited to:
- Overseeing installation, maintenance, and upgrades of mainframe subsystems.
- Monitoring system performance, capacity, and utilization to proactively address bottlenecks.
- Leading the planning and execution of mainframe upgrade projects.
- Maintaining accurate asset inventory of mainframe software licenses, versions, and configurations.
- Tracking end-of-life, end-of-support, and renewal timelines for critical components.
- Ensuring compliance with vendor licensing and audit requirements.
- Maintaining accurate, version-controlled system documentation.
- Providing knowledge transfer, training, and mentorship to internal staff.
- Acting as a technical advisor for mainframe-related initiatives.
