Summary/Objective (summary and overall objectives of the job):
Manage a team of engineering staff of 10 individuals that is focused on delivering engineering and equipment to our customers. Facilitate the growth and development of the engineering team (i.e., take care of your team) and develop the customer base by taking responsibility for these areas:
Required Skills/Abilities
Thorough understanding of the engineering work process and all engineering disciplines required of a project (controls, electrical design, mechanical, civil/structural and piping).
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Ability to manage multiple projects totaling more than $1 million in engineering services annually.
Required Education and Experience:
Five years' engineering/design experience
History of leading projects through the conceptual phase to execution
Preferred Education and Experience:
Ten years' experience in the food/cheese manufacturing industry
Undergraduate degree in Process Engineering or Chemical Engineering
Knowledgeable of issues pertaining to manufacturing operations and current best practices in minimizing these issues (safety, ergonomics, supply chain, training, etc)
Experience managing project teams including themselves and three or more other engineering resources
Work Environment:
60-75% standard office setting
25-40% shop and manufacturing facility
Physical Demands:
Sufficient mobility to work in an office setting; stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Must have ability to walk long distances and possess the flexibility to maneuver in and around machinery to take measurements. When on customer startups, must be able to travel long distances by car or plane and have the stamina to work extended hours (12+ hours per day) for up to 14 continuous days.

Compensation:
The expected base salary range for this role is $100,000 - 140,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.

- Business Development
- Responsible for writing proposals for business opportunities. These include process engineering, electrical design, programming, and mechanical design. The Team Lead is not expected to be an expert in all these areas but will be expected to involve technical experts as necessary to deliver proposals.
- Responsible for building and maintaining healthy, long-term, professional relationships with key customes, suppliers, and industry partners. Maintain excellent composure, especially under pressure.
- Responsible for leveraging existing relationships to develop new business opportunities.
- Responsible for coordinating technical engineers and customer contacts to create innovative solutions to customer challenges.
- Staffing
- Responsible for assigning team members to projects based on their technical capabilities (process engineering, CAD, electrical design, programming, and mechanical design). Work assignments should integrate employee training and professional development into individual resource schedules based on input from technical experts and mentors.
- Responsible for maintaining a schedule of PTO and travel for team members.
- Responsible for keeping the resource scheduling system up to date to maintain a picture of current staffing utilization and forecasted utilization for the next 6-12 months.
- Work with other Team Leaders and Project Managers to jointly develop a consolidated plan to allocate company resources (staff, budget, and shop space) to achieve the optimal outcome for our business, employees, and customers.
- Based on projected workload, coordinate with other Team Leaders and Human Resources to forecast future hiring needs.
- Human Resources
- Responsible for leading annual reviews for team members including process engineering, CAD, electrical design, programming, and mechanical design. This includes scheduling the review on the anniversary date, requesting feedback, and updating review documents.
- Responsible for conducting the Team Lead portion of the new employee onboarding checklist for new hires.
- Responsible for reviewing resumes and participating in interviews for candidates to fill Team openings.
- Provide input regarding salary, annual bonus, and rate code determinations for the team.
- Project Management
- Serve as a Project Manager for projects, managing engineering scope, cost, and schedule to deliver efficient, high-quality projects in a timely fashion. The Team Lead is not expected to manage every project but is expected to be a key support for others in the Team that may be managing projects. In particular, the Team Lead is responsible for filling in gaps in customer communication, that could include:
- Following up with customer regarding project status (start-up/PSI/Installation schedule, scope changes, drawing mark ups, etc.).
- Ensuring Team members create deliverables that meet or exceed the customer's expectations and standards while meeting objectives and goals.
- Communicating in person and in writing to keep customers, contractors, and project team well informed of pertinent information in a timely manner.
- Communicating team workload and schedule to internal and external customers.
- Oversee project PO's and budgets, setup, and closeout procedures. The Team Lead is not expected to lead every project but is expected to maintain oversight of projects.
- Serve as a Project Manager for projects, managing engineering scope, cost, and schedule to deliver efficient, high-quality projects in a timely fashion. The Team Lead is not expected to manage every project but is expected to be a key support for others in the Team that may be managing projects. In particular, the Team Lead is responsible for filling in gaps in customer communication, that could include:
- Training
- Responsible for ensuring Team members have a training plan in place and that this plan is being reviewed on a regular basis.
- Support technical support resources in communicating technical standards
- Technical
- Support technical support resources in applying customer technical standards and developing technical standards.
