This role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software and systems that enable critical payroll operations. Overview:
Apex Systems is seeking a Software/Systems Engineer to support a DFAS payroll application. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software and systems that enable critical payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have experience with CA-IDMS systems, IBM z/OS, and database management in a secure federal environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, document, test, and debug applications software and systems.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers and systems analysts to plan and design solutions.
- Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility within time and cost constraints.
- Modify existing databases and database management systems.
- Write and code logical and physical database descriptions; direct others in coding descriptions.
- Coordinate software system installations and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.
- Optimize CA-IDMS buffer and index tuning for performance.
- Maintain CA-IDMS system generation and security administration.
- Support CA Endevor/DB and REXX programming tasks.
- Work as part of a project team to determine scope, limitations, and deliverables.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of CA-IDMS system software install and maintenance.
- CA-IDMS database maintenance, buffer tuning, index tuning, and security administration.
- Familiarity with CA Endevor/DB and REXX programming.
- Experience with IBM z/OS environment.
- Proficiency in SQL, VisualBasic, and full software development lifecycle.
Soft Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
