Job : Network Administrator
Location: Columbia, SC , USA
Responsibilities:
Install, deploy, diagnose, and troubleshoot the agency s enterprise wireless and network infrastructure.
Coordinate daily/weekly network assignments under the guidance of the Network Manager or Team Lead.
Monitor and identify issues within the wireless network and perform remediation actions.
Support network and wireless connectivity for Windows, Mac, Tablets, and Mobile Devices (Apple, Android).
Manage the wireless network/device lifecycle through all stages.
Provide connectivity support for State Health Laboratory instruments and supporting systems.
Assist with ISE (Cisco Identity Services Engine) device registration.
Conduct onsite wireless assessments and create/maintain wireless heatmaps using Ekahau tools.
Perform enterprise wireless installations, deployments, and upgrades (including ladder work and lifting up to 40 lbs).
Carry out firmware, software, security, and feature upgrades on network devices.
Monitor and resolve tickets through the Agency trouble ticket system.
Serve as first and second-tier support for wireless and network connectivity issues.
Collaborate with IT staff and contractors to resolve wireless and network-related problems.
Assist with testing, validation, and adherence to state IT security policies.
Work closely with Network, Security, and Server Hosting teams to maintain alignment on tasks.
Support additional non-wireless IT tasks such as equipment installation and system upgrades.
Maintain detailed documentation and notes for all wireless activities.
Plan, organize, and track project milestones to completion; provide regular project updates.
Travel to remote office locations across South Carolina as required (some extended hours may be needed).
Maintain strong oral and written communication for effective interaction with IT and non-IT staff.
Comply with all HIPAA, confidentiality, and agency security standards.
Participate in weekly progress reviews with DPH to ensure project goals are met.
DPH Support Provided:
Network accounts, tools, and required access.
HIPAA and other agency-required training.
Laptop and necessary software.
Assistance from DPH staff for procedures and applications.
State vehicle (if available) for travel related to job duties.
Required Skills (Ranked by Importance):
3+ years of experience with LAN, WLAN, and WAN networks.
3+ years of Network Administration (Cisco and Palo Alto Firewall).
3+ years of experience with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Remedy).
Strong understanding of computer and network fundamentals (OS, storage, applications, networking).
Ability to climb ladders for wireless access point installation.
Ability to lift and move PCs, monitors, and networking equipment.
Valid Driver s License (required for statewide travel).
Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork abilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills (Ranked by Importance):
Network Certification (e.g., CCNA, Network+).
Experience with SolarWinds Orion network monitoring.
Experience with Ekahau Sidekick wireless analysis tools.
Required Education:
Associate s Degree in a relevant field
ORHigh School Diploma with equivalent work experience
