Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
Location: North Carolina, US (100% Onsite)
Employment Type: Contract (6-month minimum, with possibility of extension)
Start Date: Immediate availability preferred
Position Summary
Our client, a global leader in the life sciences sector, is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support critical EHS operations during the expansion of manufacturing and laboratory facilities. This professional will ensure regulatory compliance, manage risk mitigation strategies, and help drive a proactive safety culture aligned with corporate standards and applicable laws.
This role is ideal for EHS professionals with strong knowledge of environmental regulations, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, and a successful track record supporting startup or facility expansion projects within the regulated industry.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and applicable industry standards
Support and monitor EHS requirements for facility expansion and/or startup activities
Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and environmental impact evaluations
Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs and procedures across operations, laboratories, and utilities
Conduct EHS audits, inspections, and incident investigations; follow up on corrective/preventive actions
Support contractor safety management programs, including onboarding, training, and supervision of site activities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Facilities, Quality, Operations) during construction and equipment commissioning phases
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for compliance reporting, safety data sheets (SDS), and training records
Lead or support safety training sessions for employees, supervisors, and contractors
Promote a strong EHS culture and serve as a subject matter expert during audits and inspections
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor s degree in Environmental Sciences, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
Minimum 5 years of industry experience in Environmental, Health & Safety within a regulated manufacturing or life sciences environment
Experience in EHS support for facility startups, expansions, or capital projects is required
Solid understanding of federal and local regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, PR regulations)
Strong documentation and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
Master s degree or professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM
Experience working in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device manufacturing settings
Knowledge of cleanroom environments and GMP operations
Proficiency in EHS management systems and incident reporting tools
Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred
