Overview:

  • Our client, a leading healthcare provider, is seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Enterprise Domain Architect to lead the architecture and design of their critical customer service and member service web portals and applications. This pivotal role will be instrumental in shaping the future of their digital engagement platforms, ensuring a cohesive, modern, and flexible architecture that seamlessly integrates with existing systems. The Enterprise Domain Architect will be the technical authority for end-to-end solutions within this domain, with a strong emphasis on API and web service design, integration strategies, robust security implementation, and overall solution integrity within an on-premise environment. This role requires a collaborative leader who can effectively align their architectural vision with the work of other domain architects across the enterprise. The Enterprise Domain Architect drives enterprise optimization by introducing capabilities (inclusive of all functions) for their enterprise domain of responsibility utilizing in-depth knowledge and expert skills to advance domain strategies. This individual translates business needs for the domain into architectural solutions that meet performance, reliability, and security expectations and applies enterprise roadmaps, principles, standards, and practices to drive their domain strategies and execution.

Responsibilities:

  • 30% Leads preparation of enterprise domain architecture viewpoints and models depicting current, target, and interim states. Uses current state viewpoints to identify and analyze pain points and opportunities (PPOs). Leads advanced modeling and analysis to meet the strategic needs of the organization with respect to system, information, functional/non-functional needs, performance, and security/regulatory requirements. Creates and utilizes architecture patterns and ensures alignment with IT strategies and reference architectures. Ensures target state alignment and integration across architecture domains. Ensures upstream alignment / traceability to business needs via business architecture and downstream alignment / traceability with solution building blocks. Leads the extension / enhancement of domain architecture strategies, standards, and guidelines. Identifies and supports the development of reusable domain patterns.
  • 20% Leads design, engineering, and implementation of assets for internal use in solutions to improve solution quality; collaborates through the implementation phase. Leads peer reviews and represents the architecture domain in briefings to the Architecture Review Board. Oversees publishing and maintenance of viewpoints / work products in the architecture repository, ensuring they are organized, accurate, and accessible. Dispositions stakeholder comments / feedback received via project and non-project channels. Ensures that regulatory and compliance issues are addressed in solutions.
  • 15% Leads collaboration with other teams (business and technical), key stakeholders, and partners to understand needs to maximize architecture impact and address technical limitations. Leads the evaluation/selection of a solution / product design that aligns with IT / Domain strategies, standards, and guidelines.
  • 10% Leads research into emerging domain trends to determine their relevancy and fit for the organization.
  • 10% Leads vendor evaluations and the selection process broadly; leads vendor evaluation and selection for domain-specific tooling. Represents the architecture domain in the drafting of RFIs/RFPs and the evaluation / scoring of vendor proposals.
  • 10% Leads the development / enhancement of architecture domain methods and tools. Ensures the alignment / integration of domain architecture processes / deliverables with those of other architecture domains and SDLC disciplines. Leads the development of domain-related communications / education material for use with stakeholders and architecture / SDLC partners.
  • 5% Leads domain assessments for most complex new / proposed projects for architecture impacts in support of annual planning, resource estimation, and alignment with IT strategy and enterprise architecture. Provides input to project, product, and enterprise technology roadmaps. Provides regular reporting on progress, issues, and opportunities related to the architecture domain.
  • Architectural Leadership: Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for the design, development, and implementation of customer service and member service web portals and applications.
  • End-to-End Solution Design: Take ownership and accountability for the end-to-end solution architecture, ensuring alignment with business requirements, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • API and Web Service Design: Lead the design and implementation of secure and flexible APIs and web services that power user-facing applications (CSR and Member portals). This includes defining API specifications, data contracts, and integration patterns.
  • Integration Strategy: Develop and implement robust integration strategies to connect web portals and applications with backend systems and data sources.
  • Security Architecture: Define and enforce security best practices and controls, including access control, role-based authorization, data loss prevention strategies, and the application of zero-trust principles.
  • Technology Stack Expertise: Leverage deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and the Spring Data framework to guide development teams and ensure adherence to architectural standards.
  • Database Interaction: Provide guidance and expertise in interacting with DB2 database systems (both mainframe and Linux environments).
  • Architectural Patterns: Apply a strong understanding of three-tiered architecture patterns to design resilient and scalable solutions.
  • Collaboration and Alignment: Collaborate effectively with other domain architects, development teams, security teams, and business stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and integrated enterprise architecture.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, including diagrams, specifications, and design patterns.
  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate new technologies and architectural approaches to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical mentorship and guidance to development teams and junior architects.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
  • 10 years of experience in an Architecture Domain.
  • Proven experience (typically 8+ years) as a lead Solution Architect or Domain Architect, with demonstrable responsibility for delivering end-to-end solutions.
  • Deep and demonstrable expertise in the design, development, and security of APIs and web services for user-facing applications.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of three-tiered architectural patterns.
  • Solid hands-on experience and deep understanding of Java, Spring Boot, and the Spring Data framework.
  • Familiarity with DB2 database systems, including experience with either mainframe or Linux environments.
  • Strong knowledge of security controls and best practices, including access control mechanisms, role-based authorization, data loss prevention strategies, and zero-trust concepts.
  • Ability to motivate and influence others so that project objectives are met in a timely manner.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to develop high-quality solutions.
  • Ability to coach, delegate, and develop architects and engineers.
  • Ability to manage cross-domain architecture solutions and issues.
  • Expertise with domain-related architecture frameworks, methods, and tools.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal/relationship management, analytical, communications (written and verbal), and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Significant understanding of the healthcare industry, with a strong preference for experience within the Payer domain (e.g., health insurance, claims processing, member management).
  • System Architect Certificate.
