Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) 2nd Assistant Engineer PLD CL 1~without more than normal supervision which includes conducting occasional inspections of machinery and observes gauges, checking oil levels, motor generators, gearbox, generator temperatures, fuel levels, etc.; checking and controlling operation of heating, refrigerating, plumbing, and water supply systems for the dredge; investigating and determining the cause and remedial action necessary when noting unusual or unnatural condition in machinery operations; advising Chief Engineer and taking corrective action in accordance with his instructions; and assisting in making repairs to engine room and auxiliary machinery. without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

- Conducting regular and periodic inspections by visual and auditory means of all machinery to determine the operating condition and the need for maintenance and repairs.
- Making minor adjustments and emergency repairs on own initiative and reports major defects to the Chief Engineer.
- Operating controls to start, stop, reverse, and regulate the speed of propelling engines on signal from the pilot house.
- Controlling the operation of heating, refrigeration, and plumbing systems by manipulating necessary winches, throttles, and switches.
- Observing gauges such as pressure gauges, vacuum gauges, fuel oil gauges, tachometers, pyrometers, etc., to determine the proper functioning of machinery.

- Successfully complete and pass pre-employment and random drug testing required.
- Working varied schedules and shifts are required.
- Must possess US Coast Guard 2nd Assistant Engineer Near Coastal or Limited Oceans license. (Note: A copy of your license must be submitted with this application in order to be considered eligible for this position).
- Must be able to work under Inclement Weather Conditions.
- Travel to other duty locations approximately 50 percent of the time.

- PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the parts, equipment, or systems are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside subjecting employee to vary climatic conditions, abnormal noises, temperature, danger of burns, irritation from grease and oils, bruises, strains, dangers involved in attending moving machinery, possible drowning from falling overboard, electrical shock, falls on slippery decks or steep stairways, and crankcase explosion.
