Job Details

Comtech is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Technician to support Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) with project accounting, grant reimbursement processing, data entry, reconciliation, invoice validation, and financial reporting. The technician will work closely with Finance, Grants Management, Procurement, and Project Management teams to ensure accurate financial posting, compliance with HRT s purchase order requirements, and timely reimbursement tracking.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintaining and updating computerized project and grant records (D365, spreadsheets, internal grant systems).
  • Entering invoice details and preparing project invoice proposals for grant reimbursements.
  • Reviewing vendor invoices, payment records, and supporting documents to ensure alignment with project postings and PO terms.
  • Reconciling expenses, project journals, and grant postings to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Entering financial data into project, grant, and accounting systems with high accuracy.
  • Verifying calculations of project expenses and ensuring coding consistency.
  • Tracking all reimbursements to ensure timely submission, payment, and ledger posting.
  • Supporting periodic financial, grant, and audit reporting by organizing, validating, and compiling required documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with HRT Purchase Order Terms, invoicing guidelines, and federal/state grant requirements.
  • Providing administrative and clerical accounting support and performing other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager
  1. Required Skills & Qualifications:

Mandatory Qualifications & Experience Accounting Technician

M1.

Minimum 1 year of accounting clerical experience, project accounting, or financial data entry.

M2.

Experience with computerized accounting systems (preferably D365 or similar ERP).

M3.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) for accounting functions.

M4.

Demonstrated ability to review invoices, reconcile data, and ensure financial posting accuracy.

M5.

Ability to consolidate large volumes of financial data into organized, logical formats.

M6

Knowledge of accounting principles related to project, grant, and revenue accounting.

M7

Experience preparing or supporting reimbursement packages, audit documentation, or financial reports.

M8

Ability to track payments, resolve discrepancies, and coordinate with Finance/Procurement.

M9

Strong attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and adherence to financial controls.

M10

High School Diploma or GED with relevant accounting or bookkeeping coursework certificate.

Desired Skills & Competencies Accounting Technician

Experience supporting grant-funded projects, cost reimbursement processes, or government reporting.

D2

Knowledge of HRT s Purchase Order Terms, Invoicing Guidelines, or similar public transit agency processes.

Prior work in government, public transit, or nonprofit accounting environments.

Experience working with Project Managers, Procurement teams, and Grants/Finance stakeholders.
