Position Overview:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a Systems Administrator to support and manage FDOT s multi-cloud infrastructure, Microsoft environments, servers, security, and enterprise platforms. The successful candidate will oversee a wide range of cloud services and infrastructure operations, ensuring system performance, availability, and security.
Scope of Services:
The Systems Administrator will:
Support, monitor, and expand FDOT s infrastructure, applications, data, and cloud services.
Manage server operations including configuration, maintenance, security, and troubleshooting.
Oversee user access, permissions, security protocols, and system performance metrics.
Architect and manage solutions across infrastructure, application development, data management, cybersecurity, identity management, and cloud services.
Lead and coordinate technology initiatives to support business needs and optimize system performance.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Support FDOT s server infrastructure (Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022).
Administer IIS servers, manage user access, and implement security controls.
Monitor system and application performance for availability, security, and efficiency.
Recommend and support server and software upgrades.
Implement network management applications for Internet components, including firewall configurations and network performance monitoring (availability, throughput, latency, etc.).
Manage Microsoft Azure services, Power Platform, and Microsoft 365 environments.
Develop and manage Azure DevOps projects, pipelines, and organizational settings.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, security, and project management.
Support middleware platforms (API Management, IT Service Automation tools, batch job services).
Troubleshoot and resolve system and network issues, escalating to vendors as needed.
Develop automated scripts and tools to streamline administration tasks.
Create technical documentation for system processes, procedures, and best practices.
Support IT staff, contribute to team knowledge sharing, and mentor junior staff as necessary.
Conduct research to identify and implement innovative solutions for IT infrastructure.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree (or equivalent work experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
2 3 years of experience with:
Windows Server administration (2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022)
IIS Administration
Network communications (TCP/IP, DNS, Samba/CIFS, NTFS permissions)
Microsoft Azure cloud services (preferred)
Other cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform) (preferred)
3 5 years of IT experience in system operations, network infrastructure, and server support.
Experience supporting middleware, batch services, and IT Service Automation tools.
5 8 years of experience in information systems engineering or related fields.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
Strong analytical skills for system evaluation and performance optimization.
Proficiency in cloud architecture, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and Power Platform.
Solid understanding of Linux administration (RedHat and Ubuntu).
Ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and implement solutions.
Experience creating DevOps pipelines, managing repositories, and automating workflows.
Ability to lead infrastructure projects and collaborate across teams.
Knowledge of cybersecurity, compliance, and security hardening best practices.
Strong documentation and process improvement skills.
Effective communication (verbal and written) with technical and non-technical audiences.
Capable of managing multiple tasks and adapting to shifting priorities.
