Title - M365 Systems and Infrastructure Engineer
Client - IRS
Location - Washington, DC
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Lead M365 Systems and
Infrastructure Engineer to provide comprehensive technical leadership and advanced
engineering support for the IRS. This role is foundational to the stability and performance of the
M365 Cloud Suite, requiring expert oversight of complex integrations, security hardening, and
infrastructure optimization across the Enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
● Technical Program Oversight: Provide technical leadership and strategic expertise to the
M365 Cloud Program Management Office (PMO), guiding engineering best practices,
security integration, and compliance strategy across the M365 suite.
● Capacity and Performance Planning: Conduct proactive analysis of M365 service usage,
performance, and capacity (especially for SharePoint Online and Dataverse) to
anticipate future IRS requirements and prevent service degradation or outages.
● Infrastructure Synergy: Oversee and manage tasks related to the maintenance and
administration of the IRS M365 Enterprise, ensuring optimal operational harmony
between the M365 cloud, Windows servers, and SQL database clusters (2019/2022)
that interact with cloud resources.
● Power Platform Design Authority: Lead complex efforts in designing, implementing, and
governing Power Platform environments and pipelines, ensuring they are architecturally
sound, scalable, and compliant with IRS data handling policies.
● Data Governance Implementation: Champion the adoption of advanced security
engineering practices, including developing data readiness plans and actively managing
the technical implementation of Purview integration for sensitive data protection.
● Legacy Modernization: Provide expert guidance and assist with designing and managing
legacy SharePoint on-premises farm infrastructure, supporting the IRS's ongoing
modernization and migration strategies.
● Security Integration: Act as the technical liaison with the Security Specialist to implement
security protocols and manage the operational security of specialized third-party
interfaces, including AvePoint Online Services (AOS).
● Quality and Compliance: Ensure all technical designs, configurations, and
implementation plans adhere to the Quality Control Plan (QCP) and are fully
documented to meet IRS audit requirements.
● Technical Documentation: Produce and maintain high-quality, comprehensive technical
documentation (including architecture diagrams, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides) for
complex configurations and integrations.
● Team Mentorship: Mentor junior engineering and operations staff, transferring
specialized knowledge, especially in areas like SharePoint Online Administration and
Azure/M365 integration, to build team capability.
Required Qualifications
● Minimum 7 years' experience supporting the Microsoft 365 (M365) Cloud Based Suite
in a large, complex corporate or government environment.
● Demonstrated expertise in developing data readiness plans and operationalizing
Purview integration for sensitive data protection.
● Experience in assisting with the design and governance of SharePoint on-premises farm
infrastructure and its eventual migration strategy.
● Strong understanding of security protocols, including knowledge of AvePoint Online
Services (AOS) interfaces and security.
