Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting for a Manager of Systems Integration within our Robotics & Digital Solutions organization. The location for this position is Santa Clara, CA.

Robotics and Digital Solutions, is part of Johnson & Johnson Med Tech. We're changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers' abilities and improve patients' diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. Johnson & Johnson Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH ), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA ), and Digital Solutions. You'll collaborate on breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals' skills and improves patient outcomes.

The Manager, Systems Integration will lead the team in implementing the framework and processes to operate, and maintain the incredibly complex Johnson & Johnson OTTAVA Robotic System within the R&D organization. This is a role that lies at the intersection of hardware, software, robotics, and clinical engineering. Have the opportunity to train and observe clinicians, key opinion leaders, and high-profile visitors interacting with the OTTAVA System. They will provide program level contributions and management of the team's responsibilities. This team will operate the system during clinical labs, and resolve known issues, document novel issues that arise during system use, perform SW installation and smoke testing, and provide complex engineering test support for R&D applications. Applicants should have technical and leadership experience working with complex electromechanical systems but need not have a technical background in robotics. This is a phenomenal opportunity for someone with an interest in medical robotics to gain technical and industry knowledge, while providing a critical service to the OTTAVA program. The successful candidate will both be able to dive into technical details, as well as grow the team in size, skill, and career path. This individual will develop a team of highly technical engineers and collaborate multi-functionally to develop high quality products, meeting both time and budget considerations in line with Company objectives.
Core Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead root cause, and resolve challenges across the R&D systems by working across mechanical, electrical, software, robotic controls, and clinical teams.
  • Lead integration, implementation and refinement of modular mechatronics solutions.
  • Problem solve through broad technical knowledge and relationship building.
  • Lead interdisciplinary groups to drive collaboration with impartiality and willingness to constructively challenge to inspire change.
  • Build and lead a team of technical specialists responsible for setting up, operating, maintaining, and debugging the system in development and clinical labs.
  • Establish strategic plans, objectives and clear results.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate technical risk and project risk through coordination with cross-disciplinary team in R&D and external collaborators.
  • Lead recruiting, onboarding, new hire integration, and mentoring/growth opportunities for the team members.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • One of the following combinations of educational experience is required:
  • A.) BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Software Engineering or other applicable technical degree in combination with 8 or more years of related experience, OR
  • B.) MS degree in the aforementioned areas in combination with 5 or more years of related experience OR
  • C.) PhD in the aforementioned areas in combination with 3 or more years of related experience.
  • Proven past experiences of technical and/or people leadership of teams working on complex electro-mechanical systems is required.
  • Previous experience leading and mentoring, and delegating to engineers and technicians is required.
  • 2+ years of technical leadership experience is required (does not need to be inclusive of direct reports).
  • Fundamental understanding across software, controls, robotics, mechanical, and electrical engineering is required.
  • Depth in one or more of the these subject areas (i.e. software, controls, robotics, mechanical, and electrical engineering,) with ability to quickly come up to speed in new technical areas is required.
  • Hands-on experience running, testing, and solving sophisticated electromechanical or robotic systems challenges is required.
  • Experience partitioning and decomposing sophisticated engineering problems into solvable problems is required.
  • Knowledge of clinical indications and operating room workflow is very beneficial.
  • Experience integrating complex subsystems during development is required.
  • Understanding of engineering concepts such as system architecture, implementation, testing, and maintenance is required.
  • Proven understanding of SW programming is required.
  • Previous experience with C++ OR Python is preferred.
  • Excellent self-starter with a can-do demeanor is an asset.
  • Flexibility and ability to adjust to daily changes is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and drive for results.
  • Ability to lead clinical labs and make critical decisions real time is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, strong negotiating skills, and motivating in a collaborative environment.
  • Up to 10% travel in the US.
