Job Description
ECS is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to work in our Arlington, VA office / remote .
The Network Engineer will play a critical role in supporting a large-scale federal IT modernization initiative focused on transforming legacy infrastructure into secure, scalable, and cloud-ready network architectures. This position requires collaboration with federal stakeholders, systems integrators, and cross-functional technical teams to design, implement, and maintain enterprise network solutions that meet strict federal security requirements and compliance standards. The successful candidate will contribute to the migration of mission-critical systems while ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing federal operations and maintaining the highest levels of cybersecurity and data protection.

The Network Engineer will play a critical role in supporting a large-scale federal IT modernization initiative focused on transforming legacy infrastructure into secure, scalable, and cloud-ready network architectures. This position requires collaboration with federal stakeholders, systems integrators, and cross-functional technical teams to design, implement, and maintain enterprise network solutions that meet strict federal security requirements and compliance standards. The successful candidate will contribute to the migration of mission-critical systems while ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing federal operations and maintaining the highest levels of cybersecurity and data protection.
Responsibilities
- Network Architecture & Design: Develop comprehensive network designs for hybrid cloud environments, including on-premises data centers, public cloud platforms (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government), and secure connectivity solutions that support federal agency requirements
- Infrastructure Migration: Lead the planning and execution of network infrastructure migrations from legacy systems to modernized platforms, ensuring seamless transition of critical federal services and applications
- Security Implementation: Design and implement network security controls including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, VPNs, and zero-trust architecture principles in compliance with federal cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, FedRAMP, FISMA)
- Performance Optimization: Monitor, analyze, and optimize network performance across distributed federal environments, implementing solutions to improve bandwidth utilization , reduce latency, and enhance user experience
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain detailed network documentation, configuration management databases, and ensure all implementations meet federal compliance requirements including Authority to Operate (ATO) processes
- Incident Response: Participate in 24/7 network operations support, troubleshoot complex network issues, and coordinate with federal IT security teams during incident response activities
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Interface with federal program managers, security officers, and technical teams to translate business requirements into technical network solutions and provide regular status updates on modernization progress
Required Skills
- U.S. Citizen
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Information Technology, or related technical field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in enterprise network engineering with demonstrated experience in federal or highly regulated environments
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust suitability determination
Desired Skills
- Professional certifications: CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent Cisco/Juniper certifications
- Hands-on experience with federal cloud platforms (AWS GovCloud, Microsoft Azure Government)
- Deep understanding of federal cybersecurity requirements (NIST Cybersecurity Framework, FedRAMP, FISMA)
- Proficiency in network protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, SD-WAN) and enterprise networking technologies
- Cloud networking certifications (AWS Advanced Networking, Azure Network Engineer)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible)
- Knowledge of federal procurement processes and contractor requirements
- Previous experience on federal IT modernization or digital transformation programs
- Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks (DISA STIGs, CNSSI-1253)
- Experience with network automation and programmability (Python, REST APIs)
- Project management experience in federal contracting environments
