About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Electronics Engineer to provide technical leadership within Copeland's Electronics & Controls division. This role supports OEM partners in the HVACR industry, delivering innovative control board solutions for furnace and thermostat applications. You will guide global hardware and firmware design teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position where you will balance design expertise, systems thinking, and mentoring while driving execution across multiple concurrent projects.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the development of electronics control boards for gas furnaces and related products, ensuring compliance with safety-critical requirements.
  • Guide and mentor global engineering teams on detailed hardware and firmware design execution.
  • Partner with OEM customers to define and deliver control solutions that meet performance, cost, and reliability targets.
  • Oversee product development lifecycles from concept through launch, ensuring robust designs against noise, temperature, and environmental conditions.
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps and provide input to R&D/advanced development activities.
  • Engage in technical reviews (DFMEA, design validation, Lean design, etc.) to ensure quality and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing groups to achieve integrated solutions.
  • Support technology portfolio planning and represent Copeland in external technical communities when appropriate.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline (advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive electronics design experience preferred (minimum 5 years required).
  • Demonstrated success guiding teams through complex hardware design projects.
  • Strong background in circuit design, PCB layout, and system-level integration.
  • Experience with design tools such as Cadence, Allegro, or Altium.
  • Knowledge of FMEA/DFMEA processes.
  • Ability to work with and lead global teams across multiple time zones.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and mentor.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with both hardware and firmware development.
  • Patents or demonstrated history of intellectual property contributions.
  • Experience delivering electronics solutions in safety-critical applications.
  • Familiarity with thermostat, controls, or HVAC systems.
