Mechanical Test Engineer Houston, TX

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical test fixtures and assemblies to support verification and validation of medical devices.
  • Work closely with technicians on prototype builds, fixture setup, and test execution.
  • Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) to create mechanical designs, layouts, and detailed drawings.
  • Interpret and contribute to ECOs and ECRs (Engineering Change Orders / Requests), ensuring changes are properly documented and implemented.
  • Apply sound mechanical engineering principles, including tolerance analysis, material selection, and consideration of critical dimensions for manufacturability and repeatability.
  • Integrate instrumentation, sensors, and robotics, considering airflow paths, signal integrity, and system layout.
  • Perform bench-level testing using tools such as digital multimeters, calipers, and other measurement equipment.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines (electrical, software, systems) to ensure robust and testable designs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or test engineering, ideally in a medical device or regulated industry environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for fixture and assembly design.
  • Familiarity with ECO/ECR processes and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • Experience with robotics, instrumentation, and hands-on bench testing.
  • Strong grasp of tolerancing, GD&T, and mechanical design best practices.
  • Ability to consider and optimize airflow, instrumentation routing, and mechanical integration in complex systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think beyond the specs.
  • Strong communication skills-capable of articulating technical decisions and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
