Position Title: Director of Engineering - Navy Surface and Aviation Solutions

Reports To: Vice President of Navy Surface and Aviation Solutions

Job Description:

The Director of Engineering for the Navy Surface and Aviation Market is responsible for leading the engineering efforts to design, develop, and deliver advanced engineering solutions that enhance the Navy's surface and aviation capabilities. This role requires a strategic leader with a deep understanding of naval engineering, exceptional project management skills, and the ability to drive innovation and operational excellence within a dynamic and complex environment.

**Key Responsibilities:**

1. Leadership and Management:
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and Navy requirements.
  • Collaborate across function to ensure the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring high quality, on-time, and within budget performance.

2. Technical Expertise:
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in naval surface and aviation engineering, providing technical guidance and oversight on key projects.
  • Lead the development and implementation of advanced engineering solutions, leveraging emerging technologies and best practices.

3. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internally across functional groups and externally with Navy leadership, defense contractors, and other key stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver effective engineering solutions.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and meetings, showcasing our engineering capabilities and thought leadership as required.

4. Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering teams.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, tools, and technologies that enhance engineering efficiency and effectiveness.

5. Talent Development:
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent, promoting a an inclusive work environment aligned with SAIC's Core Values.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to engineering team members, ensuring their growth and advancement.

6. Sustainment and Modernization:
  • Lead initiatives focused on the sustainment and modernization of Navy surface and aviation platforms, ensuring they remain at the forefront of technological advancements.
  • Develop and execute lifecycle management strategies to maintain and enhance the performance of naval assets.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience within the defense sector, specifically in Navy surface and aviation markets. Proven leadership experience in managing complex engineering projects and teams.
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of naval engineering principles, systems engineering, and project management methodologies. Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, and leadership abilities. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Certifications: Relevant professional engineering certifications (e.g., PE, PMP) are highly desirable.
  • Clearance: Must be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance
