Project Overview: The project is technical in nature and involves upgrading SAP S/4 HANA through AWS to the commercial cloud. Additionally, it includes contracting for cybersecurity in the cloud. The project duration is 22 months, with the majority of AWS work completed in the first 6 months.
Responsibilities:
- Managing Integrations: The project manager will be responsible for managing over 170 integrations.
- Coordination with Vendors: Approximately 65 vendors will be involved, and the project manager will need to coordinate with them to resolve any issues that arise during the upgrade.
- Ensuring Timelines: The project manager will ensure that timelines for integration and environment setups are met.
- Collaboration: The role involves collaborating with internal and external teams to achieve project goals. Responsibilities:
- Technical Aspect: David is responsible for the technical aspect of the project, including all integrations.
- Integration Management: Fixing issues during the upgrade and managing the integrations effectively.
- Vendor Coordination: Working with vendors to ensure smooth integration and addressing any problems that occur. This comprehensive scope highlights the technical and managerial responsibilities of the project manager in ensuring the successful upgrade and integration of SAP S/4 HANA through AWS.
Day to day:
A typical day for the Project Manager III involves:
- Coordinating Meetings: The project manager will organize and lead meetings to track the status of various integrations. This involves checking in with different teams and stakeholders to ensure progress is on track.
- Finding Out Status of Integrations: Regularly updating and monitoring the status of the 170+ integrations to identify any issues or delays.
- Keeping Track of Timelines: Ensuring that all timelines are met, especially since there is a Systems Integrator (SI) involved that expects certain milestones to be achieved at specific times.
- Managing a Large Team: Overseeing a team of 100-150 people, including architects, ABAP resources, managers, and AWS technical resources. This requires strong leadership and coordination skills to keep everyone aligned and focused on project goals.
- Coordination Piece: The project manager will play a crucial role in coordinating between different teams and vendors, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration. In essence, the role involves a lot of "herding cats," meaning managing multiple moving parts and ensuring that all aspects of the project are progressing as planned.
