Position Title: Datacenter Critical Facilities Engineer Job Summary: The Datacenter Critical Facilities Engineer is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of building infrastructure systems including HVAC, electrical, chilled water, generators, UPS, and air handlers. The engineer determines whether repairs can be handled internally or require vendor support, serves as the primary liaison with facility service vendors, and ensures compliance with safety and operational standards. Key Responsibilities: - Serve as the primary on-site engineer for infrastructure operations, including manual interventions and safe resets during after-hours incidents to prevent cascading outages.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain datacenter infrastructure systems, including power supply, electrical distribution, cooling (air and water), UPS, generators, and related monitoring and control systems.
- Respond to emergency and scheduled maintenance across electrical and mechanical systems, including HVAC, UPS, backup generators, and power distribution.
- Diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions to restore systems to normal operation.
- Perform electrical maintenance activities in accordance with established safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and main breaker resets.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and NFPA, and support related programs such as hazardous materials management, confined space utilization, and recycling.
- Provide vendor oversight and act as the primary point of contact for third-party repairs, ensuring quality control and coordination with the customer s facilities manager.
- Participate in facility upgrade or maintenance projects, including equipment replacement, configuration, and installation activities.
- Support infrastructure operations during standard hours and off-hours, including nights, weekends, and emergency recall situations as required.
- Lead or assist with emergent issues, escalating and coordinating resolution with leadership when necessary.
Required Qualifications: - 5+ years of experience in datacenter facilities operations or similar critical infrastructure environment.
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience working around electrical distribution panels, including safe breaker operations, and schematic interpretation.
- Demonstrated experience with at least one of the following systems: HVAC, UPS, backup generators, or power distribution units (PDUs).
- Working knowledge of modern datacenter systems including security, safety, environmental controls, and smart building management.
- Skilled in evaluating power requirements, supporting hardware installations, and overseeing equipment lifecycle tasks such as move, replacement, and decommissioning.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information to leadership, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Strong time management, prioritization, and customer service skills.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and readiness to work.
- Must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
Additional Requirements: - Must be able to pass a federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust clearance.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Capable of interfacing with government personnel and contract leadership when needed.
