DevOps Engineer
100% Remote

ALTA IT Services is seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to design, build and maintain robust GitLab CI/CD pipelines that support the continuous integration and delivery of software across multiple environments. This role will play a key part in automating workflows, improving productivity and ensuring reliable software released. The ideal candidate will be responsible for writing, reviewing and maintaining Terraform modules to provision and manage scalable, secure and reliable cloud infrastructure across multiple environments.
Responsibilities:
Build reusable pipeline templates, jobs and stages for CI/CD consistency across teams
Configure GitLab Runners and manage environment-specific variables and secrets
Maintain version-controlled infrastructure for pipelines using GitOps practices
Monitor pipeline performance and resolve issues related to pipeline failures or misconfigurations
Ensure security, compliance and tractability are built into every pipeline
Analyze existing CI/CD pipelines to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies and reliability issues
Redesign and optimize pipelines stages to reduce build and deployment times
Integrate with tools for automated testing, security scanning, code quality and monitoring
Fine-tune GitLab Runners for cost efficiency and performance
Automate rollback, promotion and approval steps for smoother process
Monitor pipeline health and reliability with metrics and dashboards
Maintain and enhance existing Terraform codebase to manage cloud infrastructure across multiple environments
Perform regular Terraform code reviews and collaborate on code quality and architectural decisions
Manage state files, remote backends (S3, Terraform Cloud) and secure secrets integration
Implement automated workflows for rebuilding images and part of CI/CD pipelines
Document image change history and maintain clear audit train of image version and updates
Rollout updated images to ECS or other container orchestration platforms
Conduct vulnerability scans and remediate identified issues
Troubleshoot infrastructure provisioning issues and perform root cause analysis
Document pipeline structure, performance, improvements and best practices
Track infrastructure architecture and workflows for internal use and compliance
Troubleshoot and resolve deployment issues and improve pipeline performance and reliability
Log incidents, changes, and operational metrics in tracking systems
Required Qualifications:
BA/BS in IT, Computer Science or related field (or equivalent work experience may be accepted in lieu of the degree)
8+ years of IT experience. 2+ years of hands-on experience with Terraform
Understanding of IaC concepts, cloud architecture and Git-based workflows
Strong scripting skills Python, Bash or similar
Hands-on experience building pipelines with GitLab CI/CD
Experience optimizing pipelines for containerized apps
Knowledge if artifact management
AWS or relevant Cloud certifications (AWS DevOps Engineer, Solutions Architect Associate)
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
