Senior F5 APM Theming & Automation Engineer (Front-End/Ansible/Python)

3 Months

Remote

Role Overview (Mission)

Own the re-skin of the F5 BIG-IP APM Webtop to match our client's corporate branding and the Omnissa Access UI, and deliver a repeatable, rollback-safe deployment pipeline (iControl REST/Ansible/Python). Ensure the on-prem fallback portal works flawlessly for eLux thin-client users, meets accessibility standards, and is easy to switch/restore via a packaged Customization Group.

Key Outcomes (What success looks like)

  • Pixel-accurate APM Webtop theme aligned to client + Omnissa Access UI.
  • New APM Customization Group (HTML/CSS/JS, images/icons) packaged as a, importable alongside default theme; switch/rollback in minutes.
  • Automated workflow (iControl REST or Ansible/Python) to upload/update theme, point the Access Profile, run basic health checks, and roll back cleanly.
  • Accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) and UX sign-off; UAT passed on virtual eLux devices (rendering, SSO/MFA prompts, VDI launch).
  • Delivered repo, deployment script/playbook, rollback runbook, and a ?2-hour knowledge-transfer session.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement the APM Webtop theme via a new Customization Group; structure CSS/JS for maintainability and safe coexistence with the default theme.
  • Build an idempotent deployment workflow using iControl REST and/or Ansible/Python to:
  • Upload the theme tarball and create/update the Customization Group.
  • Patch the Access Profile to reference the new theme.
  • Run post-deploy health checks; provide one-click rollback to the prior theme.
  • Conduct UX/brand and accessibility reviews (contrast ratios, keyboard navigation, screen reader semantics).
  • Execute functional/UAT on virtual eLux devices, validating SSO/MFA flows and Omnissa/VDI launch behaviour.
  • Collaborate with Brand/UX, EUC/VDI, Network/Security, and Change Management teams; promote changes through non-prod to prod per enterprise controls.
  • Produce deliverables: theme package, source repository with README, deployment script/playbook, rollback/runbook, and KT materials; lead the KT session.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Advanced HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript (ES6+) for product-quality theming; strong CSS architecture (e.g., BEM, modular SCSS) and cross-browser skills.
  • Hands-on F5 BIG-IP APM experience customizing Webtop/Logon pages via Customization Groups and updating Access Profiles.
  • Automation:
  • iControl REST (direct API usage) and/or Ansible (f5networks.f5 collection) and Python (requests or f5-sdk).
  • Building idempotent pipelines and basic health checks; Git-based workflows and CI/CD (GitHub Actions/GitLab/Jenkins).
  • Accessibility: practical application of WCAG 2.1 AA; contrast testing and keyboard/screen-reader support.
  • Enterprise auth familiarity: SAML/OIDC, MFA prompts, session handling within APM.
  • Troubleshooting on BIG-IP/APM (TMOS/TMSH logs, tcpdump basics); understanding of LTM concepts (TLS termination, load balancing) relevant to APM. Experience validating UX on constrained/locked-down clients (e.g., eLux/kiosk-style browsers; no-internet environments).

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)

  • F5 AS3/DO/FAST, TMSH, and basic iRules (Tcl) exposure.
  • Test automation for UI flows (Playwright/Selenium) and visual diff testing.
  • Omnissa (VMware) Horizon/Workspace ONE Access theming familiarity.
  • Prior work in regulated financial services (change windows, CABs, documentation rigor).

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor s in CS/IT or equivalent experience.
  • F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator (201) preferred; APM-focused credentials a plus.
