General Summary:

Member of the Packaging Lab team, providing hands on support for mechanical characterization of automotive IC packages and modules. The qualified candidate will be responsible for operating a variety of test equipment, including thermal cycle chambers, mechanical shock testers, and data acquisition.
  • Responsible for operation and maintenance of test equipment such as environmental chambers, drop testers, vibration tables, data acquisition systems, etc.
  • Soldering and general assembly of PCBs, cabling and harnesses for connection to data acquisition systems.
  • Install instrumentation and carry out data collection tasks for mechanical characterization, such as accelerometers, force transducers and strain gages.

Sample preparation for physical failure analysis, including fine grinding and polishing of IC packages, dye and pry analysis, and various microscopy inspections as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.
2+ years of basic electrical/electronics engineering, electronics or RF testing, or related experience.

Physical Requirements:
Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

2+ years of experience with general computer skills and Microsoft applications.

2+ years experience in Semiconductor or related industry.

1+ year of experience working in a large matrixed organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Sets up and maintains benches, testers, and other equipment. Installs, upgrades, and configures moderately complex equipment and components, with minimal supervision.
Performs moderately complex measurements and produces necessary documentation.
Monitors equipment performance and identifies and analyzes failures or malfunctions.
Troubleshoots and performs basic repair work, rework, removal, and adjustments to equipment as necessary.
Sets up test equipment using hand tools or automatic test methods to perform moderately complex tests of circuits, components, instruments and mechanical assemblies.
Documents test results, KPIs, and other outcomes, and maintains malfunction records.
Executes manual and automated test plans and provides some input on test cases and test procedures. Reproduces and debugs moderately complex issues.
Conducts analyses to identify, troubleshoot, and/or diagnose simple technical issues, escalating to leaders as needed.
Gathers, integrates, and creates reports on data and information from stakeholders to understand simple specifications and develop basic solutions.
Collaborates with individuals inside own team and with other teams to complete project work.
Tracks the purchasing, shipping, receiving and usage of inventory for test labs, field engineering, and business unit projects.

Level of Responsibility:

Works under some supervision.
Provides some supervision/guidance to other members; does not have direct reports.
Responsible for own work. Decision-making is limited. Impact of decisions is readily apparent. Errors made typically only impact timeline (i.e., require additional time to correct).
Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. Role may require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc.
Most tasks require multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; some planning and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively; mistakes may result in some rework.
Some creativity may be required to troubleshoot technical problems or deal with novel circumstances.
Deductive problem solving is required to solve moderately complex problems; most problems have defined processes of diagnosis/detection; some limited data analysis may be required.

Pay range:
$22.83 - $34.25

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
