Job Details

Would revolutionizing the cloud computing space excite you?

Are you passionate about delivering the latest in Cloud Native Services?

Come join our Cloud Compute Team!

Akamai's Cloud Technology Group's Compute division, formerly Linode, and now Akamai's Connected Cloud (ACC), consists of collaborative, inclusive, and creative teams. We develop applications and services to empower our customers. Our mission is to accelerate innovation by making cloud computing simple, scalable, affordable, and accessible to all. We design, develop, test and maintain products that run on our IaaS platform.

Shape the future of our managed Kubernetes products

You will be part of a team responsible for validating the reliability, performance, and correctness of Kubernetes-based infrastructure and services. You'll play a key role in testing and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters - including node behavior, networking, control plane interactions, and operational fault scenarios.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test II , you will be responsible for:
  • Instrumenting tests to detect configuration drift, node failure, networking bottlenecks, and resource contention in K8s clusters
  • Contributing towards building the roadmap and test strategy for enterprise features expected from a Kubernetes-based Platform
  • Building automation that tests resilience, scalability, and recovery of microservices deployed on Kubernetes
  • Participating in the definition and adoption of best practices, knowledge sharing and mentoring
  • Collaborating closely with development and SRE teams to replicate and resolve customer-impacting issues in K8s environments
  • Working in an environment that fosters innovative solutions, rapid development cycles, and open communication
  • Designing and executing tests targeting Kubernetes control plane, worker node behavior, and system-level failure scenarios
  • Creating, managing, and debugging Kubernetes clusters in real-world cloud-based environments

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:
  • Have 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Have experience building/operating/testing highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable production services using Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies
  • Have deep, hands-on experience with Kubernetes cluster deployment, management, and troubleshooting in production environments
  • Be familiar using infrastructure as code tools like Crossplane, Pulumi, Terraform or Ansible.
  • Use Python and automation validating cloud and Kubernetes environments. Testing valued, but Kubernetes domain expertise is essential
  • Debug control plane failures components (API server, scheduler, etc.), networking issues (CNI), storage provisioning, and node health
  • Have understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, HTTP) and knowledge of Linux-based operating systems
