The Assistant Actuary will play a key role in developing American National's actual?to?plan earnings analysis for the company's retail annuity business. This role is suited for candidates with 4-6 years of actuarial experience who are independent, self?motivated, and capable of performing complex actuarial and financial analyses. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills; prior exposure to annuity products is preferred but not required.
This role will also provide meaningful exposure to corporate planning, actuarial projection models, and Statutory and GAAP financial reporting frameworks.

What You'll Do
- Drive the development of actual?to?plan earnings analysis for the retail annuity business.
- Analyze and explain emerging variances between actual results and planned earnings.
- Support the company's periodic Statutory and GAAP earnings analysis processes.
- Assist in training and mentoring interns and junior analysts on spreadsheets, databases, and other analytical tools.
- Maintain steady progress toward actuarial credentials by preparing for SOA examinations through a combination of on?the?job learning and independent study.
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.
- Four to six years of professional actuarial experience, ideally within life or annuity insurance.
- Completion of 3-4 SOA exams and active progress toward the ASA designation.
- Strong analytical, problem?solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross?functional partners.
- Proficiency with Excel; familiarity with SQL, Python, R, or actuarial modeling tools is a plus.
