Role: Senior IT Systems Engineer (Contract)
Location: Austin, TX (100% Onsite) (Strictly Only Locals)
Duration: 6-month Contract (potential CTH)
The Mission: We are seeking a highly skilled and seasoned IT Systems Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. This senior role demands expertise in the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex IT infrastructure systems. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our core IT environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Systems Architecture & Design:
- Collaborate in the design of scalable and resilient Enterprise & Cloud IT systems, aligning with business requirements and best practices.
- Recommend and implement solutions encompassing Infrastructure servers, storage (NetApp, VxRail), virtualization, and cloud technologies.
- Implementation and Deployment:
- Lead the hands-on deployment of new systems and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
- Develop and execute thorough test plans to ensure system integrity and functionality.
- Troubleshooting and Optimization:
- Diagnose and resolve complex system-level issues across diverse hardware and software components.
- Proactively analyze performance metrics to identify potential bottlenecks and implement optimization strategies.
- Automation and Scripting:
- Apply scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Ansible) to streamline system administration tasks and reduce manual effort.
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation on systems architecture, configurations, and procedures.
- Mentor junior team members, promoting knowledge transfer and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience as an IT Systems Engineer with proven expertise in a range of technologies, especially system automations.
- In-depth knowledge of:
- Linux (CentOS and RHEL) and Windows server (2019+) operating systems and administration.
- Virtualization technologies (VMware, VxRail or Hyper-V or Nutanix etc.)
- Experience with VCenter Migrations preferred.
- Storage systems (SAN, NAS).
- Filesystem migration knowledge for SMB and NFS shares
- Migration knowledge from on-prem virtual infrastructure to Azure/AWS/Google Cloud Platform Backup solutions (Rubrik, Barracuda, etc.)
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
Desired Skills & Experiences:
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- Familiar with implementing and managing Azure services such as Azure AD, Intune, Autopilot, Conditional Access, PKI certificates.
- Containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
- Industry certifications (MCSE, RHCSA, VCP, AWS Certifications, etc.).
