Position Overview

The Application Systems Developer plays a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise applications that support business operations across the organization. This individual will be responsible for developing and enhancing both RPG-based and modern non-RPG applications, ensuring system reliability, scalability, and performance. The role involves troubleshooting, optimizing existing solutions, and collaborating closely with business and IT stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technology solutions.

This is a hands-on development role requiring strong analytical thinking, technical depth, and the ability to deliver solutions independently or as part of a cross-functional team.

Key Responsibilities

·        Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain software applications with minimal supervision.

·        Provide end-to-end application development and unit testing for medium to complex projects.

·        Participate in source code and version control management aligned with technical governance standards.

·        Collaborate with project teams to define design and testing scenarios in alignment with business requirements.

·        Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of all application development work.

·        Research and recommend emerging tools, techniques, and best practices for continuous improvement.

·        Develop deep functional and technical knowledge in assigned business areas.

·        Provide mentorship and guidance to junior developers, as needed.

Required Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

·        10+ years of experience in developing or maintaining enterprise applications.

·        Strong proficiency with RPG (all versions) and familiarity with IBM i / iSeries environments.

·        Expertise with:

o   SQL and embedded SQL programming

o   CL programming

o   ILE concepts

o   Batch and online development

o   XML and Web Services

o   File encryption (e.g., PGP)

o   FileNet or similar document imaging systems

o   Windows / MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio)

o   RDi (Rational Developer for i)

Preferred Qualifications

·        Experience with DB2 and programmatic data access.

·        Familiarity with Java / J2EE, VB / C# / C++, or .NET technologies.

·        Working knowledge of XSLT, Rules Engines, or Document Composition Systems.

·        Understanding of Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid SDLC methodologies.

·        Exposure to source code management, build/deployment automation, and test management tools.

·        Knowledge of PGP encryption on iSeries 7 or similar midrange environments.

·        IBM or PMP certifications preferred.

·        LOMA coursework or equivalent insurance domain experience is a plus (not required).
