Senior Learning Designer

Position Description

The Senior Learning Designer will be part of a team consulting on the design, development, and delivery of instructional materials and online, blended, and residential courses for Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health programs.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Collaborate with faculty members, instructors, and teaching assistants to design and refresh pedagogically sound courses and instructional materials
• Provide project management for the overall refreshing and delivery of online and blended courses and other instructional design projects, coordinating all project team members for each project and defining and managing scope, timeline and deliverables
• Collaborate, consult, and assist with the training of faculty on the effective use of instructional design strategies to improve education
• Ensure quality of instructional video by collaborating with faculty to prepare visuals and scripts, coaching faculty during video recordings, and working closely with video editors on final production
• Develop and teach faculty and staff professional development activities in areas of instructional design
• Present at Harvard-based and professional conferences and contribute to the larger instructional design community at Harvard and beyond
• Research and evaluate new and emerging instructional design theories and approaches and policies for potential application to instructional opportunities
• Provide recommendations on the strategic, tactical, and operational issues associated with the development of new courses and programs
• Provide mentorship to interns, student workers, and other team members on instructional design and teaching practices
• Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of two years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:

• 4+ years of professional experience designing, developing, and managing online, blended, or other technology-mediated instruction; Minimum two years' additional post-secondary education or relevant work experience
• Master's Degree in education, instructional design, or related field
• Working knowledge of instructional design principles and best practices
• Experience coaching faculty who are new to teaching, including in online and blended format; experience coaching faculty for video recordings and managing video production processes and timelines
• Experience with training both one-on-one and in a group setting
• Experience managing multiple complex projects
• Demonstrated technical expertise in an area/s of multimedia or audio visual essential
• Knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software and equipment
• Experience designing instruction for graduate programs
• Knowledge of public health curriculum
• Familiarity with web-based course management tools (such as Canvas) and online conferencing software (such as Zoom)
• Experience using cloud-based tools including email, file storage, media creation, and collaborative editing
• Experience in fostering strong ongoing relationships with multiple audiences, but especially faculty and teaching staff
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with multiple constituencies in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
• Experience using independent judgment to carry out duties and responsibilities preferred
• Proven communication skills, both verbally and in writing

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
