Title: Commercial Data & Analytics Technology Consultant Pharma
Location: Can be remote and will have to travel to NC (Raleigh) for meetings. Preferred time zone = East Coast

Role Overview:
We are seeking a senior consultant with deep expertise in commercial data warehousing and master data management (MDM) to support the buildout of an internal data and analytics function at a leading pharmaceutical company. This consultant will serve as the strategic and technical advisor to the Director of Analytics, working alongside internal stakeholders and an external implementation partner.
The ideal candidate will bring both domain knowledge of the pharma commercial data landscape and hands-on experience guiding enterprise-grade CDW and MDM projects - from design through implementation - ensuring scalable, compliant, and future-ready solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Guidance
- Serve as the technology thought partner to the Director of Analytics during the transition from an outsourced to in-house data capability.
- Advise on vendor selection, architecture choices, and technical design for the CDW and MDM solutions.
- Translate evolving commercial business needs into scalable data architectures and integration strategies.
Technical Leadership
- Define reference architecture and data models tailored to pharmaceutical commercial operations (e.g., HCP/HCO hierarchies, product sales, patient services).
- Oversee the design of ingestion pipelines for third-party data (e.g., IQVIA, specialty pharmacy, claims), CRM data (e.g., Veeva), marketing platforms, and internal business systems.
- Guide the design of conformed data models that support sales analytics, territory alignments, field force reporting, and patient journey insights.
Program Oversight
- Act as technical lead and quality gatekeeper across all phases of the CDW and MDM build lifecycle.
- Coordinate effectively with external vendors, ensuring that architectural decisions meet long-term scalability, performance, and compliance needs.
- Track and mitigate delivery risks while ensuring proper change management, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
Data Governance & Quality
- Collaborate with business teams to establish data stewardship, business rules, golden record creation, and MDM governance processes.
- Ensure data quality, lineage, and auditability across both structured and semi-structured data domains.
- Help define standards for data mastering, including HCP/HCO matching, affiliations, product hierarchies, and address normalization.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Experience & Domain Knowledge:
- 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise analytics, with at least 5 years in life sciences or pharmaceuticals.
- Direct experience leading or supporting the build of commercial data warehouses (CDWs) and MDM solutions in pharma.
- Deep familiarity with pharmaceutical commercial data domains:
- HCP/HCO data (IQVIA, MedPro, Symphony, OneKey)
- Sales and prescription data (Xponent, DDD, NPA, SP data, claims)
- CRM/SFA platforms (Veeva, Salesforce)
- Marketing and digital engagement data
Commercial Data Warehouse (CDW) Expertise:
- Proven experience architecting or overseeing CDWs in cloud environments (e.g., Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Google Cloud Platform BigQuery).
- Strong understanding of:
- Dimensional modeling (e.g., star/snowflake schemas)
- Data lake vs. warehouse concepts
- Conformed data layers
- Slowly changing dimensions (SCD)
- Data ingestion pipelines (batch/streaming)
- Data transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt, PySpark, SQL-based ELT)
Master Data Management (MDM) Expertise:
- Experience with commercial MDM tools (e.g., Reltio, Informatica MDM, Profisee, Semarchy).
- Deep understanding of:
- Entity resolution and survivorship logic
- Golden record creation for HCPs, HCOs, Products, Accounts
- Hierarchy management (e.g., affiliations, IDNs, locations)
- Mastering across multiple source systems (CRM, sales data, third-party)
- Ongoing MDM operations and stewardship model design
Soft Skills & Leadership:
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills across business and technical teams.
- Ability to simplify complex data and architecture concepts for functional business leaders.
- Strong documentation and presentation capabilities (e.g., data architecture diagrams, roadmaps).
- Leadership presence, with the ability to influence without authority.

- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards relevant to pharma data:
