Your role at GEI.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Serve as part of GEI's geostructural practice, providing engineering support on a variety of civil engineering projects, including excavation support design, specialty foundation design, and traditional structural and geo-structural engineering.
- Support evaluation and design efforts for structural steel, reinforced concrete, dams, excavation support systems, foundations, and other above and below grade structures.
- Serve as lead structural design engineer for multiple dam reconstruction projects, performing engineering studies and overseeing construction to increase the hydraulic capacities of these dams to safely pass a future flood event.
- Conduct comprehensive stability analysis of concrete water-retaining structures in accordance with current FERC Engineering Guidelines for the Evaluation of Hydropower Projects.
- Assist with feasibility studies and other technical analysis to evaluate various construction methods, foundation options, excavation support systems, etc.
- Use structural and geotechnical software to perform various analyses ranging from limit-state-equilibrium analyses to two- and three-dimensional finite element analyses.
- Supervise a team of junior engineers
- Lead teams performing field inspections of engineering projects and provide support to the project team on various permitting submittals, and technical specifications.
- Monitor engineering project construction activities
- Assist with preparation of engineering reports and proposals
- Assist in client development and networking
- Prepare and edit drawings using AutoCAD
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have BS degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
- 3 years of experience in civil engineering specializing in geotechnical engineering involving the following: (1) performing analysis, evaluation and design of deep foundations, concrete design, soil mechanics, and foundation design; (2) working with geotechnical engineering software and computerized applications, analysis and design software (Plaxis, SAP, STAAD, AutoCAD, etc.) or geostructural engineering software (RISA2D and 3D, or similar).
- Alternatively, we will accept a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field. and 1 year of stated experience.
- Must have academic coursework covering the subjects of steel design, concrete design, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
- Must have passed the FE exam
- Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time locally and nationally on temporary assignments and work in the field.
- Eligible to telecommute up to 2 days/week from a home office within normal commuting distance of the New York, NY office.
