Position Summary
The Cloud Architect will lead the organization's transition from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud. This strategic role will define our cloud adoption roadmap, guide migration efforts, and ensure the optimization and security of our Microsoft 365 (O365) tenant. The Cloud Architect will collaborate closely with IT leadership, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders to design scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions that enhance operational efficiency and support innovation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive cloud adoption strategy, ensuring a seamless migration from on-premises to cloud infrastructure.
- Lead end-to-end cloud migration initiatives including application modernization, data migration, and workload assessments.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate cloud platforms and services aligned with organizational objectives.
- Optimize and secure the Microsoft 365 tenant, ensuring best practices in governance, compliance, and performance.
- Enhance collaboration across Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange Online to improve user experience and productivity.
- Implement and manage identity and access controls, including Azure AD, Conditional Access policies, and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
- Ensure compliance with data retention, regulatory standards, and security protocols within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
- Partner with cybersecurity teams to strengthen cloud security posture and adhere to Zero Trust principles.
- Establish and enforce policies for cloud resource provisioning, cost optimization, access controls, and data protection.
- Act as a strategic advisor to leadership on cloud technologies and emerging industry trends.
- Collaborate with application, security, and network teams to design scalable and automated cloud architectures.
- Mentor IT staff on cloud technologies, tools, and operational best practices.
Qualifications
To perform this role successfully, candidates must demonstrate expertise in the following areas:
Technical Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure and deep expertise in Microsoft 365 administration and optimization.
- Proven success in on-prem to cloud migrations and Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant transitions, especially during mergers or acquisitions.
- Strong understanding of identity management, including hybrid identity, Azure AD consolidation, and migration strategies.
- Experience with cloud networking, IAM, RBAC, Conditional Access, and advanced security configurations.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, ARM Templates, or CloudFormation.
- Strong knowledge of licensing, data governance, and compliance within the Microsoft 365 environment.
- Hands-on experience with SharePoint Online and OneDrive migrations, including file mapping and permissions.
- Proven ability to implement threat detection, security hardening, and incident response in cloud ecosystems.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
- Familiarity with cloud security frameworks such as NIST, CIS Benchmarks, and Zero Trust Architecture.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, hybrid cloud models, and multi-cloud environments (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).

Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Cloud certifications such as:
- Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- AWS Solutions Architect - Associate/Professional
- Google Professional Cloud Architect (optional but desirable)
- Microsoft 365 certifications such as:
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture, infrastructure design, and migration projects.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience managing Microsoft 365 collaboration tools.
