JOB OVERVIEW
The DevOps Engineering Manager is responsible for managing a DevOps/SRE engineering team, building developer tools, extending our CI/CD pipeline, and improving service observability. This is a hands-on role that requires a demonstrated track record of managing teams to build secure, large-scale, highly available services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead, mentor, and manage a team of DevOps Engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement
· Grow the DevOps team by attracting, hiring, and retaining top talent
· Apply Agile Scrum methodologies to plan, prioritize, and deliver DevOps projects, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and daily stand-ups
· Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines for applications
· Drive adoption of DevSecOps practices and embed security early in the SDLC
· Manage cloud infrastructure with a focus on scalability, resilience, cost optimization, and compliance
· Drive improvements in system monitoring, observability, and system availability to meet and exceed SLAs
· Collaborate with security teams for vulnerability scanning, policy enforcement, and proactively manage security patching and configuration management for infrastructure components
· Manage and resolve day-to-day support escalations efficiently
· Provide input into the cloud technology roadmap
· Provide input into architectural designs and requirements
· Collaborate with Engineering, QA, Product Management, and Customer Success teams to build environments and pipelines to support new product development
· Collaborate with Application and Operations support teams to build, manage, and maintain monitoring and alerting systems
· Collaborate with Security teams to build logging and analysis systems to support the SOC
· Deliver clear communications to stakeholders on project status, risks, and improvement opportunities
· Support the development and reinforcement of strong engineering practices and processes within an agile environment.
· Meet customer and organization SLA's
· Perform other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervise DevOps Engineers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Institute’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
· Experience supporting and deploying mission-critical 24/7 SaaS applications
· Understanding of CI/CD best practices
· Experience building immutable infrastructure
· Understanding of IaaC best practices to manage and maintain containerized applications
· Experience working with container and orchestration technologies
· Experience working in a multi-cloud environment with expertise in AWS and knowledge of Oracle Cloud and Azure
· Knowledge of agile/scrum methodologies
· Can clearly articulate reasoning behind a solution to a technical challenge while understanding tradeoffs
· Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with development, product, compliance, and security teams
· Ability to consistently deliver high-quality systems and policies
· Comfortable with a fast-paced environment and changing requirements
· Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty and ambiguity
· Excellent communication skills and a team mindset. Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
· Ability to coach/mentor and monitor staff to conduct roles and responsibilities according to the function’s purpose
· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures and systems
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
· 5-7+ years of work-related experience. Hands-on DevOps experience, including designing and implementing end-to-end automation for an enterprise product in a cloud platform preferred.
· 1+ years of experience coaching and managing a team of DevOps engineers

With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting.
