Overview

Data. Gaming. Analytics. AI. Scale. If these words resonate with your passion and expertise, this could be the career advancement you're looking for. Xbox is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer II to help take our analytical engineering and AI-powered insights to the next level on our modern data platform. In this role, you will partner closely with feature analytics teams, business stakeholders, and data scientists to harness petabytes of data and transform them into trustworthy, self-service data models, semantic layers, and metrics that power high-quality product and business insights at scale-while measurably increasing the velocity and reliability of how those insights are delivered.

You will design and build robust, code-driven analytics data products, dimensional models, and governed metrics, while also integrating AI and machine learning capabilities-for example, anomaly detection and predictive retention-into our decision-support workflows. You'll own the full lifecycle of analytics and AI features, from code-based data modeling and feature engineering through automated quality checks, documentation-as-code, and production monitoring, with a core focus on accelerating time-to-insight and reducing friction for downstream analytics and business teams. Ultimately, the analytics and AI foundations you build and operate will set the bar for engineering excellence, business alignment, and high-velocity, self-service intelligence across Xbox.

Responsibilities
  • Design, development, and deployment of large-scale data solutions and pipelines that power code-first analytics and insight generation for our customers.
  • Ensure data accuracy, reliability, and timeliness across Xbox data systems, enabling trustworthy product and business insights and high-quality decision making.
  • Architect and implement robust data infrastructure to handle petabytes of data, optimizing for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency on our modern data platform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams-including feature developers, program managers, analysts, and data scientists-to define data requirements, standardize metrics, and deliver actionable insights.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in data engineering, analytics engineering, and AI, driving innovation and best practices within the data engineering domain.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and security standards, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of all data assets.
  • Act as a technical lead on complex projects, providing strategic input, technical oversight, and mentorship to improve the velocity and quality of our analytics delivery.

  • 2+ years with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and their data services.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing data lakes, warehouses, and ETL pipelines.
  • Proactive and excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate issues and resolve them efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
